Complete run of a thrice-weekly periodical, sponsored by the Opposition party, against the Union of Ireland/Great Britain; modelled on the earlier Anti-Jacobin; chief contributors: Peter Burrowes, Plunket, Charles Bushe, Thomas Wallace. Thomas Gould, Smiley (cf. Aspinall, Politics & the press). -- Presumably original issues: folds and soiling evident but no tax stamps. There are at least two type settings of at least some numbers; in this set, which is larded with broadsides, newspaper clippings, etc. on the same subject, nos.1-2 are in a typographic style different from 3-32; in another set nos.1-32 are in the style of 3-32 this set; there are also typographic differences (in thick/thin rules, others?) between the two sets. The common style is, e.g. "The Anti-Union. [double rule; varies, thin/thick, thick/thin, thin/thin] Price 2d. Thursday, December 27, 1798. No.I. [double rule; varies, thin/thick, thick/thin]..."
