The final steps in the manufacturing of a superconducting RF cavity involve careful tuning before the final welds to match the target frequency as fabrication tolerances may introduce some frequency deviations. The target frequency is chosen based on analysis of the shifts induced by remaining processing steps including acid etching and cool down. [...]

Manufacture of a Compact Prototype 4R Crab Cavity for HL-LHC / Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U.) ; Hall, Benjamin (Lancaster U.) ; Lingwood, Christopher (Lancaster U.) ; Alberty Vieira, Luis (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Capatina, Ofelia (CERN) ; Boulware, Charles (Michigan State U.) ; Gorelov, Dmitry (Michigan State U.) ; Grimm, Terry (Michigan State U.) ; Krizmanich, Christine (Michigan State U.) et al.
A prototype compact SRF deflecting cavity has been manufactured for LHC. The base of the cavity has been machined out of large grain niobium ingot to allow the manufacture of the complex rod profile. [...]

Gain and Coherent Radiation from a Smith-Purcell Free-Electron Laser / Brau, Charles A ; Andrews, Heather L ; Boulware, Charles H ; Jarvis, Jonathan D
We have developed a new theory to describe the gain of a Smith-Purcell FEL. The theory shows that the electrons interact with an evanescent mode whose frequency lies slightly below the frequency range of Smith-Purcell radiation, and whose group velocity is negative. [...]
