Status and Challenges in the MQXFB Nb3Sn Quadrupoles for the HL-LHC / LARP Collaboration
The inner triplet (or low-$\beta$) quadrupole magnets are among the components to be upgraded in LHC interaction regions for the HL-LHC project. The new quadrupole magnets, called MQXF, are based on Nb3Sn superconducting magnet technology, with a conductor peak field of 11.3 T. [...]

First CERN Cold Masses for the HL-LHC Interaction Regions / Prin, Herve (CERN) ; Axensalva, Jerome (CERN) ; Bampton, Tavis (CERN) ; Bourcey, Nicolas (CERN) ; Devred, Arnaud (CERN) ; Duarte Ramos, Delio Luis (CERN) ; Ferradas Troitino, Jose (CERN) ; Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN) ; Milanese, Attilio (CERN) ; Pentella, Mariano (CERN) et al.
In the framework of the HL-LHC project, CERN has the responsibility to develop, qualify and assemble three different types of cold masses, namely Q2 (final focus quadrupole in the triplet), CP (corrector package) and D2 (separation dipole). In this paper, we describe the various designs, which incorporate several novel features. [...]

CERN Yellow Report Front Cover Status and challenges of Nb$_3$Sn accelerator magnets at CERN : Lessons learned from ITER to HL-LHC / Devred, A
The High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project at CERN has offered the opportunity to promote and develop various types of enabling accelerator technologies, such as MgB$_2$ superconducting links for cold powering and Nb$_3$Sn accelerator magnets for the interaction regions where the t [...]

Status of MQXFB quadrupole magnets for HL-LHC / Milanese, A (CERN) ; Ambrosio, G (Fermilab) ; Apollinari, G (Fermilab) ; Axensalva, J (CERN) ; Baldini, M (Fermilab) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Barth, C (CERN) ; o, R Carcagn (Fermilab) ; Crouvizier, M (CERN) ; Devred, A (CERN) et al.
The MQXFB magnets are superconducting quadrupoles with nominal peak field on the conductor of 11.3 T. With their magnetic length of 7.2 m, they stand as the longest Nb3Sn accelerator magnets designed and manufactured up to now. [...]

Status of the MQXFB Nb$_3$Sn quadrupoles for the HL-LHC / Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN) ; Ambrosio, Giorgio (Fermilab) ; Apollinari, Giorgio (Fermilab) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Barth, Christian (CERN) ; Crouvizier, Mickael Denis (CERN) ; Duarte Ramos, Delio (CERN) ; Devred, Arnaud (CERN) ; Feher, Sandor (Fermilab) ; Felice, Helene (CERN) et al.
The cold powering test of the first two prototypes of the MQXFB quadrupoles (MQXFBP1, now disassembled, and MQXFBP2), the Nb3Sn inner triplet magnets to be installed in the HL-LHC, has validated many features of the design, such as field quality and quench protection, but has found performance limitations. In fact, both magnets showed a similar phenomenology, characterized by reproducible quenches in the straight part inner layer pole turn, with absence of training and limiting the performance at 93% (MQXFBP1) and 98% (MQXFBP2) of the nominal current at 1.9 K, required for HL-LHC operation at 7 TeV. The high-luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) requires new high field and large-aperture quadrupole magnets for the low-beta inner triplets (MQXF). With a nominal operating gradient of 132.2 T/m in a 150 mm aperture and a conductor peak field of 11.3 T, the new quadrupole magnets are based on Nb3Sn superconducting technology. [...]
