Precision spectroscopy and laser-cooling scheme of a radium-containing molecule / Udrescu, S M (MIT) ; Wilkins, S G (MIT) ; Breier, A A (Kassel U.) ; Athanasakis-Kaklamanakis, M (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Ruiz, R F Garcia (MIT) ; Au, M (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Belošević, I (TRIUMF) ; Berger, R (Philipps U. Molecules containing heavy radioactive nuclei are predicted to be extremely sensitive to violations of the fundamental symmetries of nature. The nuclear octupole deformation of certain radium isotopes massively boosts the sensitivity of radium monofluoride molecules to symmetry-violating nuclear properties. [...]

Electron correlation and relativistic effects in the excited states of radium monofluoride / ISOLDE Collaboration
We report the spectroscopy of the 14 lowest excited electronic states in the radioactive molecule radium monofluoride (RaF). The observed excitation energies are compared with fully relativistic state-of-the-art Fock-space coupled cluster (FS-RCC) calculations, which achieve an agreement of >=99.64% (within ~12 meV) with experiment for all states. [...]

Rapid progress in the experimental control and interrogation of molecules, combined with developments in precise calculations of their structure, are enabling new opportunities in the investigation of nuclear and particle physics phenomena. Molecules containing heavy, octupole-deformed nuclei such as radium are of particular interest for such studies, offering an enhanced sensitivity to the properties of fundamental particles and interactions. Cool molecular highly charged ions for precision tests of fundamental physics / Zülch, Carsten (Philipps U. Marburg) ; Gaul, Konstantin (Philipps U. Marburg) ; Giesen, Steffen M. (Philipps U. Marburg) ; Garcia Ruiz, Ronald F. (MIT ; CERN) ; Berger, Robert (Philipps U. Marburg ; CERN)
Molecules and atomic highly charged ions provide powerful low-energy probes of the fundamental laws of physics: Polar molecules possess internal fields suitable to enhance fundamental symmetry violation by several orders of magnitudes, whereas atoms in high charge states can feature large relativistic effects and compressed level structures, ideally posed for high sensitivity to variations of fundamental constants.
