RF design and optimization of the high-energy linac for the FCC-ee injector complex / Kurtulus, A (CERN ; ETH, Zurich (main)) ; Grudiev, A (CERN) ; Latina, A (CERN) ; Bettoni, S (PSI, Villigen) ; Craievich, P (PSI, Villigen) ; Raguin, J -Y (PSI, Villigen)
The high-energy linac of the Future Circular Collider electron-positron (FCC-ee) injector complex requires high-performance rf accelerating structures to efficiently accelerate beams up to 20 GeV while ensuring operational stability. This study presents an analytical approach to the rf design of traveling-wave structures, incorporating a pulse compression system to enhance power efficiency and meet the demanding FCC-ee specifications. Yb-based high-power frequency combs for high-intensity laser–particle interactions / Roiková, Eva (CERN ; Uppsala U.) ; Martens, Aurélien (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Goryashko, Vitaliy (Uppsala U. ; XFEL, RIKEN) ; Krasny, Mieczyslaw Witold (CERN ; LPNHE, Paris) ; Chulkov, Ruslan (Uppsala U.) ; Goddard, Brennan (CERN) ; Musat, Vlad (CERN ; JAI, UK) ; Granados, Eduardo (CERN)
Optical frequency combs (OFCs) are a revolutionary tool for metrology, spectroscopy, and, in general, the precise interaction of lasers with particles. In this context, ytterbium (Yb) based laser technologies are particularly relevant due to their broad bandwidth and ability to produce high average power laser beams at extremely low phase-noise level. The DEFT facility: An accelerator for very-high-energy electron FLASH radiotherapy Technical design report / Angoletta, Maria Elena (CERN) ; Bauche, Jeremie (CERN) ; Brunner, Olivier (CERN) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Cravero, Jean-Marc (CERN) ; Doebert, Steffen (CERN) ; Ferreira Somoza, Jose Antonio (CERN) ; Giordano, Maria Carmen (CERN) ; Granados, Eduardo (CERN) et al.
The design of an accelerator facility capable of delivering FLASH radiotherapy to large, deep-seatedtumours is presented. The facility, called DEFT (Deep Electron Flash Therapy), produces 140 MeVelectrons so is capable of treating tumours located at depths up to 25 cm. [...]

RF Design and Optimization of Linacs for the CLIC Main Beam Injector Complex / Kurtulus, Adnan ; Doebert, Steffen (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Zhao, Yongke
The design of the CLIC main beam injector complex linacs necessitates high-gradient, traveling-wave accelerating structures engineered to withstand substantial beam-loading effects due to the elevated beam current and demanding acceleration requirements of CLIC operations. [...]

Electro-optic frequency combs for high flux X-ray generation via high-intensity laser-particle interactions at CERN / Roiková, Eva (CERN ; Uppsala U. (main)) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Muşat, Vlad (CERN ; JAI, UK) ; Goryashko, Vitaliy (Uppsala U. (main) ; JAERI-RIKEN, Hyogo) ; Granados, Eduardo (CERN)
Electro-optic frequency comb (EOFC) technology has undergone a significant development in recent years, driven by the increasing demand for agile ultrafast optical systems in both scientific research and commercial applications. Advances in integrated and fiber-based GHz modulators operating in the near-infrared (NIR) region have enabled the use of modulation techniques to efficiently generate ultrafast laser pulses with arbitrary repetition rates of up to 10s of GHz and tunable pulse duration down to 100s of fs. Benchmarking Intrabeam Scattering with RF-Track / Desiré, P (CERN ; U. Groningen (main)) ; Latina, A (CERN) ; Mitri, S Di (Sincrotrone Trieste ; U. Trieste (main)) ; Gerbershagen, A (U. Groningen (main))
Intra-beam scattering (IBS) has recently gained significant interest in the community of free electron lasers (FELs), as it is believed to produce an increment in the sliced energy spread (SES), which is detrimental to FEL performance. To control and contain this phenomenon, it is important to include IBS in the design phase of an FEL through appropriate numerical simulation. Most existing codes that simulate IBS were developed for long-term tracking in circular lattices, assuming Gaussian bunches. [...]

Demonstration and characterisation of a novel dual-scattering system for very high energy electrons / Robertson, C (JAI, UK ; Unlisted, UK ; Newcastle upon Tyne U. ; CERN) ; Corsini, R (CERN) ; Farabolini, W (CERN) ; Gerbershagen, A (U. Med. Ctr. Groningen, Groningen) ; Korysko, P (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Latina, A (CERN) ; Malyzhenkov, A (CERN ; Unlisted, CH) ; Dosanjh, M (JAI, UK ; CERN)
This article describes the design and implementation of the first known prototype of a dual-scattering system for the delivery of a uniform VHEE beam with transverse dimensions suitable for pre-clinical and potential future clinical use. The results presented in this article are the first experimental characterisation of beam flattening with dual-scattering foils in the VHEE regime, confirmed with both profile measurements with a YAG screen and radiochromic EBT3 films.
