Radiation levels in the LHC tunnel and impact on electronics during the 2023 Pb ion run / Canesse, Auriane (CERN) ; Ricci, Daniel (CERN) ; Söderström, Daniel (CERN) ; Di Francesca, Diego (CERN) ; Tagkoudi, Eirini (CERN) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) ; Lerner, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Garcia Alia, Ruben (CERN) ; Fiore, Salvatore (CERN) ; Niang, Samuel (CERN)
The 2023 operation of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN included a one-month-long run with fully stripped Pb ion beams, marking the first heavy-ion run since 2018, and delivering Pb ion collisions at an unprecedented center-of-mass energy of 5.36 TeV per nucleon pair. During this period, the radiation fields in the LHC tunnel have been measured by means of different radiation monitors, including Beam Loss Monitors (BLMs), RadMons, and distributed optical fiber dosimeters, with the primary goal of quantifying the radiation exposure of electronic systems. Exploring the ENEA Casaccia and ENEA Frascati irradiation capabilities: Status and perspectives / Croia, Michele (ENEA, Rome) ; Burgio, Nunzio (ENEA, Rome) ; Ampollini, Alessandro (ENEA, Frascati) ; Astorino, Maria Denise (ENEA, Frascati) ; Bazzano, Giulia (ENEA, Frascati) ; Bianchi, Barbara (ENEA, Rome) ; Cesaroni, Mateo (ENEA, Rome) ; Falconi, Luca (ENEA, Rome) ; Fiore, Salvatore (ENEA, Frascati ; CERN) ; Lepore, Luigi (ENEA, Rome) et al.
A collaboration between different facilities in Casaccia and Frascati ENEA research centers has recently opened the possibility of performing irradiation experiments using different kinds of particles such as protons, neutrons, and electrons. The facilities involved in the project are the TAPIRO fast nuclear research reactor, the TOP-IMPLART proton accelerator (71 MeV), the REX electron accelerator (5 MeV) and the FNG neutron facility (2.5/14 MeV) [...]

IFMIF-DONES will be a first-class scientific infrastructure consisting of an accelerator-driven neutron source delivering 1e17 n/s with a broad peak at 14 MeV. Such neutron flux will be created by impinging a continuous wave 125 mA, 40 MeV, 5 MW deuteron beam onto a liquid Li jet target, circulating at 15 m/s. [...]

Heavy Ion Energy Deposition and SEE Intercomparison Within the RADNEXT Irradiation Facility Network / García Alía, Rubén (CERN) ; Coronetti, Andrea ; Bilko, Kacper ; Cecchetto, Matteo ; Datzmann, Gerd ; Fiore, Salvatore ; Girard, Sylvain
RADNEXT is an EU-funded network of irradiation facilities and radiation effects’ experts aimed at increasing the quantity and quality of user access to accelerator infrastructure and improving the diversity and harmonization across facilities. Along with beam provision to worldwide radiation effects’ users, RADNEXT has an ambitious research program oriented at improving radiation effects’ testing, of which an example of a heavy ion facility intercomparison at very different energy regimes is included in this work. G4SEE: A Geant4-Based Single Event Effect Simulation Toolkit and Its Validation Through Monoenergetic Neutron Measurements / Lucsanyi, David (CERN) ; Alia, Ruben Garcia (CERN) ; Bilko, Kacper (CERN) ; Cecchetto, Matteo (CERN) ; Fiore, Salvatore (ENEA, Frascati) ; Pirovano, Elisa (Braunschweig, Phys. Tech. Bund.)
A single-event effect (SEE) simulation toolkit has been developed at CERN for the whole radiation effects community and released as an open-source code. It has been validated by comparing the simulated energy deposition of inelastic interactions, due to monoenergetic neutrons in the 1.2–17 MeV energy range, to the distribution measured experimentally by a silicon diode detector..
