Anemone leveillei
Anemone leveillei is a woodland type Anemone that doesn't mind a bit of sun. In late spring and early summer, mounds of deeply divided, softly hairy foliage is topped with elegant, lilac-backed white flowers that have a central cluster of deep purple-blue anthers - the flower almost looks like it is electrified. Very effective when planted in large swathes. I (Paul) love this plant and enjoy guessing the pronounciation of leveillei. Lev -e-il -le -i?

Anemone WILD SWAN 'Macane001'
Anemone WILD SWAN 'Macane001' was the winner of the 2011 Chelsea New Plant of the Year. Introduced by Elizabeth MacGregor from Scotland. Apparently a cross between early and late flowering forms (possibly A. rupicola & A. hupehensis) resulting in a plant which flowers intermittently from May to November. The petals are pure white with a grey-blue streak along the reverse, thus when in bud, or when the flowers nod and half close (in the mornings and evenings) the flowers look bluish, but ....

Anemone ranunculoides
Anemone ranunculoides is an absolutely gorgeous yellow anemone commonly know as wood ginger. In 1993 it received the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, It forms a tight low mat of ferny leaves. At the center of each leaf it produces a bright yellow flower, resulting in a very showy display. Despite forming a mat is it also grown as a rock garden or alpine plant. Anemone nemorosa
Anemone nemorosa is an early-spring flowering plant, native to Europe. Common names include wood anemone, windflower, thimbleweed, and smell fox, an allusion to the musky smell of the leaves. The specific epithet nemorosa is derived from the Latin nemus meaning 'forest' - a reference to the woodland habitat in which these flowers grow. White flowers, often softly shaded with lavender pink on their reverse, they look great with Ficaria verna (the yellow plant in the photo).

Anemone nemorosa 'Robinsoniana'
Anemone nemorosa 'Robinsoniana' has large, elegant buds of dove-grey that open to reveal chalices of pale lavender blue, centred with a broad ring of quivering golden stamens. We find some plants, and years, are bluer than others. Presumably the plant was discovered, or named after, William Robinson, the father of modern 'wild' gardening and the closet thing dad has to a gardening hero. In his most famous book 'The English Flower Garden' Robinson recommends it without claiming any credit. As Car

Anemone flaccida
Anemone flaccida is a small, mountain native, species of Anemone that likes full to part shade. Quite slow growing, it has deep leaves and beautiful white cup-like flowers with white anthers. One of our favourites - I know we shouldn't but we actually grow one of ours in a very sunny location by our house and it does fine. So, quod erat demonstrandum, to some extent.

Anemone x hybrida 'Whirlwind'
Anemone x hybrida 'Whirlwind' is a cultivar know for it large semi-double white flowers that look, well, like a whirlwind! Their slight untidyness is extremely beautiful. My (Paul) favourite Anemone. In our garden it doesn't spread as much as the other Anemone.

Anemone x hybrida 'Géante des Blanches'
Anemone x hybrida 'Géante des Blanches' is a wonderful semi-double cultivar with white petals and with a yellow center. It can grow quite tall and produces a wonderful show late in the season. I believe it resulted as a cross between A. hupehensis and A. vitifolia in France during the 19th century - that is a romantically opened ended belief. I guess we could do the DNA testing, but I'm not sure it would as fun to mention. As a tall plant it is fun to grow this cultivar through other plants..
