Gardening is a favorite hobby, having learned at the knees of my father, who had a huge vegetable garden, and my mother who loved working in her flower beds. I always remember my father's sage advice "You have to be cruel to be kind"-meaning that in order to have prolific blooms or crops, you have to pinch the middles of plants, or prune roses and fruit trees.
