C'est ce degré de magnificence qu'Obsidian Tongue vise dans A Nest of Ravens in the Throat of Time. Si la production est toujours rugueuse, le duo américain met l'accent sur les mélodies, plus profondes et mélancoliques. Progressives, les pistes se rallongent et se condensent. Un bel opus qui frôle, sans l'atteindre encore, la perfection !

Du DSBM au black metal atmosphérique, de la ville à la forêt, de l'asphyxie à l'ouverture : Laho est un revirement complet par rapport à Kval — et c'est tant mieux car Kval, malgré toutes ses qualités, était un album d'un autre temps. L'ambivalence est au centre de Laho et c'est ce qui lui donne toute sa puissance. La mort n'est plus une fin en soi : murs de guitares déprimants et cris de douleurs cohabitent avec une néo-folk (kantele, flûte de pan, piano) rafraîchissante. Lugubre et beau !

... de l'arbre aux tours de béton. C'est un changement de décor qui s'opère dans These Mills Are Oceans, troisième E.P. de Sertraline : les titres, les textes et les ambiances jazz plus remarquables (notamment grâce à Jason Roman et Ken Culton) suggèrent un cadre urbain — et il ne suscite pas la joie de vivre. Les mélodies, lentes et réverbérées, se perdent dans l'indifférence ; l'élan vital et organique d'autrefois s'estompe. La grande envolée de "Their Cities" nous engloutit. C'est magistral !
