Mike Ashton Sometimes, when you describe something as "crystaline", you imply a brittle fragility. No such quality here. This is crystalline purity; purity of sound. I have followed Christian's work since I first heard Mortal Flesh.
This work, pairing Grace's flawless Soprano to Christian's peerless playing is possibly the best yet.
I challege anyone to listen to this music and not fall into a contemplative mood and emerge revitalised by the experience. Favorite track: Another Way.

Soaking meadow, wondrously cold, From its interior first brought me forth. I know in my mind, I was not made, With woolen fleece Nor hair from high craftsmanship. Woofs are not wound for me, nor have I a warp. Threads don’t resound for me through violence of blows. Shutter won’t rattle, no loom reed strike. Worms did not weave with skill of the fates. Yet over the Earth I am adorned With splendid garments before my heroes. Flights of arrows I do not fear, Though they come keenly out of the quivers.

A heart speaks, a life returns. A mouth breathes, and thoughts belong In a time when words restrained, In a time when love remained. A heart sees, an eye looks over. A mind hears, and sounds hang on From a time when words restrained, From a time when love remained. A heart speaks, a life returns. A mouth breathes and thoughts belong From a time when words restrained, From a time when love remained.

Another Way 04:44
It seemed like another day, where it all began. Seemed like another place, they just turned and ran. Where lies another place to be? Uncensored. Unmentioned. Feels like another day, all those idle thoughts. Feels like another way, solace found once more. Where lies another place to be? Uncensored. Unmentioned. It seems there’s no other day, found here as before. Seems there’s no other way, washed up by the shore. Here lies the other way to be. Uncensored. Unmentioned. It seemed like another day, where it all began. Seemed like another place, they just turned and ran. Where lies the other place to be?

Angel of the North, all the hosts of Heaven, Blessed maiden and mother, All saints of this island through generations, Souls of the faithful, Benedicite Domine. Life through all the depths, Beasts of sky and field, Benedicite Domine. Those who’ve sung their praises through generations, Souls of the faithful, Benedicite Domine.

Immersion 03:10
Untie me from this fear. Unite all these years. If time reveres then time will steer. Remind of this fear. Rewind all these years, And find again that timeless liberty.

about

Lindisfarne is a cycle of songs (with & without words)
written for a number of performances at the Holy
Island Festival. The music reflects the landscape,
history and culture of the area, taking influence from
folk music, song forms and classical minimalism. From
The Leiden Riddle, which is one of the earliest written
examples of the Northumbrian dialect, to Whin Sill
which is a musical reflection on the tabular layer of
rock spanning the Pennines and forming the outcrop
upon which Lindisfarne Castle sits, this collection is a
personal meditation on the richness of history, nature
and spiritual tranquility found on Holy Island.
