about

The latest transmission on Sector 7 Sounds comes from prolific bassbin operator Cimm. For the best part of 10 years the London-based beatsmith has been testing the crossover where soundsystem styles collide with the crisp angles of techno. From 140 steppas to sublow electro, 2-step rollers to half-time wobblers, Cimm's style points the way forwards for properly weighted, UK-rooted club music. It's little wonder he's been a regular fixture on scene-leading labels like Youngsta's Sentry, Madam X's Kaizen and V.I.V.E.K.'s System Music.

The Circuit Jam EP features four upfront joints ranging from stomping meditations to low-down nasty party gear. The title track 'Circuit Jam' especially taps into the dutty side of electro and Miami bass with its snappy machine funk beatdown and monstrous sub-busting b-line. Before that though, 'Squeeze' throws down a tough 4/4 march offset with airy chords and nagging percussion.

Dialling down to 130 for the B side, Cimm locks into a deadly, shuffled roll on the eeriest cut on the EP, 'Biting Back'. That leaves it to 'Crush' to clean up with a punchy, acidic slice of electro that funnels some old-skool energy into its steely structure. It's the sound of Cimm in his element, effortlessly bringing the full spectrum of rave culture into his sharply-focused club workouts.
