50 Best Shots of 2019

By s. Tuesday, February 4, 2020 , , , , , , , , , , , 18 Comments
There were so many wonderfully shot movies in 2019, making my cinematography line up was a bit of a nightmare. It was easier with this list, seeing how many choices I could include. And 2 weeks from now, my final best and worst of 2019 list will be published, this time with record 66 categories!

10 Best Scenes in 2019

By s. Monday, January 27, 2020 , , , , , , , , , , 28 Comments

2019 gave us so many good scenes. I could easily make a list of at least 50, but the traditional format has always been and will remain 10. But it was so hard to choose the ranking. However number 1? Well, that easily won. So here we go:

10 Best Performances in 2019

By s. Tuesday, January 14, 2020 , , , , , , , , , , 27 Comments
Here we are again, the most wonderful time of the year when we get to celebrate the best movies and performances we saw over the last 12 months. Usually I start my lists with the best scenes, but I still haven't watched 1917 and I think it may have a shot at that, so this year we begin with the best performances.

10 best scenes in 2018

By s. Saturday, February 2, 2019 , , , , , , , , 28 Comments
The most wonderful time of the year is finally here! It's when I get to share my love for the greatest things in movies from last year. Just like in 2017, I'm starting with best scenes of the year. Unfortunately I didn't see all the films I planned - Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, Destroyer, Vox Lux and I didn't finish the one I don't want to watch but have to - Roma, so here we go, this is the list of the best scenes out of 77 2018 releases I watched.

35 best shots of 2017

By s. Sunday, January 28, 2018 , , , , , , , 34 Comments

Before I publish my entire Best and Worst of 2017 list - and that's gonna be next Sunday - there is still one more separate list to publish. Most of these shots are pretty self explanatory but if I had additional thoughts or explanation I added that. Here are my choices for 35 best shots of 2017:

10 best performances in 2017

By s. Sunday, January 21, 2018 , , , , , , 22 Comments

Every year I think I celebrate most aspects of my favorite movies of the year properly. After all, my final list has so many categories and there's plenty of love (and hate, I think I need to create some new categories for Baby Driver this year) there. But I always felt if there is one thing I could write more about it's the outstanding performances. I always only write about winners in each of the four categories and that's not enough. So this year, for the first time ever, I decided to put all of my 20 nominees together  and choose top 10 performances out of those. And deciding between the top 2 was an absolute nightmare.

10 best scenes in 2017

By s. Saturday, January 20, 2018 , , , , , , , , 18 Comments

Here we go! It's time to start my best of lists. I i still have few movies left to see before I finish my epic Best and Worst list - I think there are nearly 70 categories there this year,  including The Post and Phantom Thread, but since it's almost the time for Academy Award nominations and most bloggers are publishing their best of 2017 lists already, I decided to start with mine too, especially that I doubt any of the films I have left to watch from 2017 could get into top 10 here.

The Best (and Worst) of 2016

By s. Monday, April 10, 2017 37 Comments
Best movie: The Handmaiden
(2. Hell or High Water 3. The Nice Guys 4. The Conjuring 2 5. The Witch 6. The Neon Demon 7. Manchester by the Sea 8. Hidden Figures 9. Eddie the Eagle 10. Jackie)

There was only one movie that got 10/10 from me last year and that was the magical Handmaiden. Filled with twists and turns, it's a movie that has everything - great, gripping story, wonderful performances, beautiful visual side, terrific score and characters you care about. If you haven't seen it yet, do. It will enchant you.

By s. Thursday, February 18, 2016 , , , , , , , , , , 24 Comments
Yesterday we looked at the best scenes in 2015, today it is time to take a look at the most glorious single shots that mesmerized me last year. Fury Road, my win for cinematography, takes the top spot with 3 mentions but there is something else entirely on the spot. Here are last year's choices.

Here we go:

10 best film tracks of 2015

By s. Saturday, January 9, 2016 , 6 Comments
All right, since the late release of The Revenant in my country made it impossible for me to see the movie by now - and finish my final list for 2015 and complete my best shots, best scenes and best performances list, I can only publish one list other than best trailers - best film tracks.

10 best trailers in 2015

By s. Monday, December 7, 2015 , 14 Comments
While my awards in this season will be later than usual - thank you for releasing The Revenant as late as January 29th :/ - I can start already because I'm assuming other than some mind blowing promos for the Oscar films that are gonna drop soon there won't be any new, potentially amazing, trailers. Some of the trailers released this year like "Krampus" and "The Nice Guys" informed me of existence of those movies and made me wanna see them, some like "Hail Cesar" used amazing music and some like "The Hateful Eight" trailers just didn't click for me. I'm also making that list because recently Playlist published theirs and The Revenant was FOURTH. I almost puked in my mouth when I saw that.

So here are the best trailers of 2015:

Simply the Best: 2009 - 2005

By s. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 31 Comments
The Oscar season is almost upon us so I thought it would be fun to assemble a list of my winners in 5 big categories. I originally wanted to just share the list but once I started to write about these movies and performances the post grew so much I had to split it into three. So here is the second one with my winners for Best Picture and best performances between 2009 and 2005:

Simply the Best: 2015 - 2010

By s. Saturday, October 3, 2015 40 Comments
The Oscar season is almost upon us so I thought it would be fun to assemble a list of my winners in 5 big categories. I originally wanted to just share the list but once I started to write about these movies and performances the post grew so much I had to split it into three. So here is the first one with my winners for Best Picture and best performances between 2010 and 2015. 2015 picks are likely to change but at this point I just want to praise these performances. Fury Road is safe where it is, though.
