Having stumbled across your excellent additions to Category:Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Albany, New York), I perused over here and was extremely impressed with your work. Your photos document extraordinary and beautiful cultural items (and this from an agnostic). Keep uploading! upstateNYer 02:53, 13 February 2012 (UTC) |

Orestes Brownson
[edit]Hello Nheyob, you uploaded splendid photos from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (Notre Dame, Indiana)! I am looking for one of the grave of Orestes Brownson, which I am informed to be in the crypt of the basilica. Have you got one? Thank you and greetings from Germany! --Rabanus Flavus (talk) 17:52, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Rabanus Flavus, Thank you for your kind words and your interest in my work. I've never been to the crypt of the basilica and I don't have any such photograph. I had never heard of Orestes Brownson until today; thank you for introducing him to me. I'll ask about him if I ever make back there. Nheyob (talk) 02:40, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
- In that case - may it be in a year or three -, would you please make a short notice on my talk page? Thank you, --Rabanus Flavus (talk) 02:59, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
- That sounds like a plan! I will be happy to do it. Nheyob (talk) 14:48, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
- Since you seem to be interested in Catholic church buildings all over the world, you might like the en:Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches. In the 1800s, western Ohio and eastern Indiana was heavily settled by German immigrants. In one rural area of Ohio, the Missionaries of the Precious Blood built many Gothic churches on flat landscape. Check it out!
- Thanks, I'll look there. - The "plan" is simply reverence for Orestes Brownson. If you read this book of his, you will perhaps understand. Greetings, --Rabanus Flavus (talk) 20:48, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Photo request
[edit]Since you travel a bit in Ohio, would you mind helping with en:User:Nyttend/Ohio when possible? Basically, I'm trying to get at least one decent picture for each municipality and township (unincorporated areas only) statewide, and there are almost five hundred locations still left to be illustrated. Anything decently representative of a municipality or township would work: houses or commercial districts, typical countryside, or local landmarks such as parks, monuments, or churches. If you're interested in helping, I'd suggest just looking at the page to see which places along your planned route still need photos. Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 21:13, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
PS, if you look at the page and know of an already-on-Commons picture for a jurisdiction that isn't illustrated, it would definitely be helpful if you added that image. I've added Commons images whenever possible, but I'm sure I've missed a lot of spots. Nyttend (talk) 21:14, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
- I can help, but I don't travel in Ohio as much as I used to. Is this what you had in mind? en:Millville, Ohio Nheyob (talk) 01:27, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
- I don't know where else to post this.
- This mural painting
- https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Catedral_de_la_Purísima_Concepción_(Tepic,_Nayarit)_-_portal_vault_mural_of_Revelation_Chapter_3.jpg
- is Revelation FOUR, not 3. Robalbal Robalbal (talk) 01:28, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- You are right, of course. Not sure how I messed that up, but I know how to fix it. Thanks! Nheyob (talk) 11:13, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Great. It's easy to make simple mistakes. I am just glad my message got to you. Thanks, Robalbal Robalbal (talk) 11:18, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Actually, now that I look at it more closely, I think it might be Revelation Ch. 5. Thoughts? Nheyob (talk) 11:19, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- It may have elements of chapter 5 (and maybe other chapters), but seems to be primarily about chapter 4. 4 beasts, lightning, 24 elders seated, not laying prostrate, etc. Robalbal Robalbal (talk) 11:28, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- I'm thinking Ch 5 because the scroll is in the right hand and the Lamb is in front of the throne. Nheyob (talk) 11:30, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- well, it has to be 4 though it may have elements of 5 also; 5 does not mention what the beasts look like, and in 5 the elders are prostrate before the throne. "Revelation chapter 4 and 5" would be accurate. Robalbal Robalbal (talk) 11:33, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

- By the way, do you know who the painter was? Robalbal Robalbal (talk) 11:19, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- No idea. I was there on business and the supplier took me there as a favor as long as I was quick about it (nowhere to park). I was in and out of that cathedral in about 10 minutes. Nheyob (talk) 11:28, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- That is unfortunate, well, if you know the town / church or the person who took you there, you could contact them and ask. Robalbal Robalbal (talk) 11:29, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open!
[edit]Read this message in your language
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
You are receiving this message because you voted in the 2021 Picture of the Year contest.

Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States 2023
[edit]Hello! In 2021, you contributed to Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States. Thanks to people like you, it was a great success with over 500 people contributing over 5,500 photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the country. Hundreds of these photos now help illustrate Wikipedia articles, improving our open knowledge about United States history, culture, and heritage. You can see the top-ten winners of the US competition here.
While the United States did not participate in Wiki Loves Monuments in 2022, I'm pleased to say that we're back for 2023 through the month of October! I'd like to welcome you to participate once again in the event. Check out our 2023 event page for more information.
Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2021, and we hope to see you again in this year's event! If you have any questions, please leave them on the event talk page.
Thanks, ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 09:12, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
