Hello,

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, and I am new at Illistrator, but...

I'm trying to make a simple 5 pt line with a red fill with a thin black outline.  My fill is red, and my stroke is black.  But no matter what I do, the line is black.

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

You cannot see the fill because it is a straight line. If line was curved you would see the fill between the start and end point of the curve.

If you want a red line with a thin black line around it, you could add an additional black stroke below the red one in the Appearance panel and make both a different size.

Try using the rectangle tool and adjust from result.
