| DESIGN NAME: Mia PRIMARY FUNCTION: Foldable Cat Bag INSPIRATION: When traveling or engaging in outdoor activities with cats, it is often necessary to address the issue of carrying pet outdoor supplies that take up a lot of space. This not only adds to the burden of the owner but also brings the trouble of storing idle items at home. In response to the challenges that families and cats encounter when traveling together, we explored how to design more portable cat shelters, aiming to provide a more convenient and flexible solution. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: FurBallRetreat creates the perfect resting space for your cat! It not only has a beautiful and lovely book-like appearance but also is an essential tool for you and your cat to explore the outdoor world together. Combined with the malleable structure of organ paper, FurBallRetreat enables you to easily unfold it when using, creating a comfortable and safe hidden space for your cat to enjoy the outdoor fun and, at the same time, get some rest in a familiar environment. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Whether you're in a garden, patio, or camping outdoors, FurBallRetreat can be set up quickly. When unfolded, it becomes a cat's bed that can be placed in any space, while when folded, it takes up only the thickness of a book. The use of replaceable wearing parts for easy cleaning and maintenance ensures that the living environment is always clean and hygienic. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Shenzhen in March 2024 and completed in Shenzhen in June 2024. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: FurBallRetreat is crafted from environmentally friendly materials such as Dupont paper and recycled board, with full consideration given to environmental friendliness. The detachable property of DuPont paper enables it to contract flexibly, creating an extremely convenient product. This design not only emphasizes practicality and portability but also reflects a concern and commitment to sustainability. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product usage size: Width 460 mm x depth 460 mm x height 460 mm Product storage size: Width 430 mm x depth 80 mm x height 460 mm Product packaging size: Width 460 mm x depth 110 mm x height 490 mm TAGS: Cat nest, portable, foldable, environmentally friendly, Comfort and convenience RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We surveyed 500 cat owners and discovered that 83% of them carry a cat bag when going out with their cat, while only 12% do not. This indicates that carrying a cat bag is a common phenomenon. However, the cat bag occupies a large space and its storage when not in use is also a problem. In response to this challenge, we designed a portable cat bag for home, aiming to solve the problem of idleness, reduce storage space, make it easy to carry, and provide cats with more security. At the same time, more environmentally friendly materials are selected and matched. CHALLENGE: One of the greatest challenges we encountered during the implementation and research process was ensuring the compatibility of the FurBallRetreat between home and outdoor spaces. We strive to ensure that people do not have to occupy more space to accommodate the cat bag, and hope that FurBallRetreat will not only solve the problem of carrying the cat bag but also integrate into family life. At the same time, more environmentally friendly materials used in the design of cat nests are researched.
