| DESIGN NAME: Cabin Trunk

 PRIMARY FUNCTION:
 Multifunctional Carry On Luggage

 INSPIRATION:
Our mission is to reignite the excitement of travel with a practical and elegant luggage solution that embraces a circular approach. We have reimagined the cabin-size suitcase for today's traveller, creating the modern Cabin Trunk. Inspired by the romance of classical steamers trunks and wardrobes, we blend luxurious and sustainable materials, such as a durable flax composite, which can be recycled to produce new Cabin Trunks.

 UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Cabin Trunk is a revolutionary carry-on suitcase that merges contemporary design, functionality, and sustainability with the spirit of the golden age of travel. Its vertical design allows easy access to belongings at any time, on the move, and it can be transformed into a travel desk with a simple flip. At the hotel, it stands as a self-supporting piece of furniture, offering organised and accessible storage, making it the perfect travel companion for the modern, discerning traveller.

 OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The Cabin Trunk is the only rolling suitcase designed for 100% vertical use. Its secure top cover provides direct access to the upper compartment, pouches, and wardrobe section, making it practical and easy to use throughout your journey, at any moment of the travel. When fully open, it stands as a self-supporting piece of furniture, featuring a wardrobe on one side and two compartments (drawers) on the other, enhancing its functionality and elegance.

 PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Founded in November 2022, Chapoget exhibited the Cabin Trunk concept at Milano Fuori Salone (Salone del Mobile) in April 2023, with first acclaim (listed in the French Design tour, collaborations requests and first orders). Based on feedback and usage tests, we iterated through this mockup and four prototypes. We are now presenting the final prototype as we move towards industrialization, maintaining the same design while refining tooling and processes.

 | PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To disrupt the industry, we combined a user-centric approach, sustainability, and innovative manufacturing techniques. For the flax composite panels, we developed a new manufacturing method to reduce weight while achieving a high-quality finish. The product is also 100% repairable, with all parts assembled using screws (and corresponding screwdrivers stored in the luggage), eliminating the need for glue or stitching.

 SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
When the wheels are folded, the luggage complies with airline cabin-size restrictions: Height 550 mm x Width 350 mm x Depth 230 mm. When the wheels are deployed, the wheelbase increases for added stability, and the luggage is lifted by 70 mm for more comfortable use.

 RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
We are a team of industry experts with an intense personal experience. We started with a thorough client survey. To disrupt the industry, our team combined a user-centric approach based on client needs, iterative problem-solving for real usage difficulties, and material tests with specialists to innovate sustainably. We started with a blank slate in a highly constrained sector, addressing clients' needs with vertical use, foldable wheels, and flat compartments. The Cabin Trunk is fully repairable by clients, with an assembly reinvented for sustainability.

 CHALLENGE:
The challenge was to start from scratch in a highly regulated sector to meet clients' needs. The Cabin Trunk disrupts industry standards with its vertical use, foldable wheels, and flat compartments. Ensuring it is fully repairable by clients required a complete reinvention of the assembly process. Additionally, innovating with sustainable materials and manufacturing the luggage in France added complexity but aligned with our commitment to sustainability.
