| DESIGN NAME: Girls Find Girls

 PRIMARY FUNCTION:
 App

 INSPIRATION:
Many females struggle to answer "Is this industry a good fit for me, as a female?" The app is inspired by multiple career reports, friends' career stories and my 6 year experience in B2B industry. While data analytics has been successful in financial, supply chain and healthcare, it can be a creative solution for females to explore their career and not drop out easily. Rather than treating females as a secondary gender hidden behind reports, the app follows female-centered design to encourage them to make their own career decisions.

 UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Girls Find Girls is an app to quantify female presence and encourage female to pursue their career. Lacking of female representation is one of the reasons females not choose certain industries, even if they are passionate about it. Traditional career reports can be largely biased by gender. The app seeks to use live data, advanced insights and woman communities to help young girls and adult females to have a holistic view in an easy and creative way.

 OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Female career explorers can use Insights tab to scroll through latest female employment insights to find interesting patterns. Then they can click into Trends to compare female presence percentage and number by industry. This will allow them to answer questions like "Where are females working?" If they are interested in certain industry, they can click into the industry to identify popular female roles, female career paths and female
salary. In order to research deep into the industry, female can use Community tab to connect with local organizations and find inspiring female leaders.

 RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
6 user interview was conducted to understand challenges in female career exploration. One of the biggest pain points coming out of the research is a lack of female representation. Females find it hard to answer questions like "Is this industry a good fit for me, as a female?" Traditional career reports contains gender bias and it takes time and efforts to deep dive into details. The project presented a solution to the target users to explore the industry and have a holistic view in an ubiquitous way.

 CHALLENGE:
The most critical challenge is about the tone of the design. While females have been encouraged to compete with men, this app is not intended to treat female as a hidden secondary gender. Instead, the app is choosing a tone that is encouraging females to better understand themselves and become a better version of themselves. The data charts are designed in a way that shows female progress without using male presence as a benchmark. The app intends to leverage on female progress to inspire young girls who are hesitate to choose their passionate career, and help adult females who are struggling with hidden gender bias.
