| DESIGN NAME: Art Eco Brush

 PRIMARY FUNCTION:
 Comb

 INSPIRATION:
Inspired and motivated to create the Art Eco Brush by the current market demand for carbon and plastic reduction and sustainability. They wanted to create an eco-friendly comb that is simple and plastic-saving without compromising on functionality. Features of the comb include a double-layered bristle design that prevents tangles and massages the scalp; a burnished bead technology that prevents fallout and reduces environmental pollution; an innovative ring structure that replaces the cushion and provides a cushion-like softness and a simplified process that reduces pollution.

 UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The dual-layer structure makes it easier for the comb to untangle the hair. When combing the hair, reduces resistance, allowing the hair to be combed out more smoothly. also massage the scalp.
Innovatively adopts the burnished technology to achieve one-piece molding, which simplifies the manufacturing process, reduces pollution, and prolongs the service life of the combs.
Instead of the conventional cushion, the ring structure reduces the amount of plastic and maintains the softness of the brush.
The open in the middle of the handle reduces weight and makes it easy to hang.

 OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
User feedback shows that the product performs well in both wet and dry uses, with a particularly noticeable combing effect during shampooing. Stylists have found that when washing out dye after coloring, the double-layered bristle pins easily remove residue from the pores, leaving customer's scalps cleaner. Many customers feel comfortable when using this comb. In particular, the curved brush head with double-layered bristles designed to fit the shape of the head brings a massaging effect, so that even when the hair is wet, the comb can easily detangle the hair knot without pulling the scalp.

 PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project finished in December 2023 in Taiwan.

 | PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Art Eco Brush is crafted from recycled ABS plastic from recycled large appliances such as refrigerators and televisions to ensure durability and heat resistance. The combing section is made of heat-resistant nylon, which is suitable for blow-drying and adds to the practicality of the brush. Nylon has good heat resistance up to 120 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for use in blow-drying and not being deformed or damaged by high temperatures.
Furthermore, recycled paper is used in the packaging material of the product to further minimize the negative impact on the environment.

 SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
 Length: 23cm
Width: 7cm
Height: 4cm
Color: Two colors are available; one is dark green and the other is marble. The green one emphasizes the concept of environmental protection and has a metallic matte effect. The color can also be customized, according to the need to spray paint to achieve a stable and high-quality appearance.

 RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The Art Eco Brush is an eco-friendly comb designed with sustainability at its core. This product addresses the pollution issues associated with traditional brushes by optimizing its materials and production process. Its distinctive feature is the dual-layer bristles with rounded tips, which not only easily untangle the hair but also massage the scalp.
The handle is ergonomically designed to enhance comfort during use. Additionally, the hollow design not only cuts down on material usage but also facilitates better airflow when blow-drying hair.

 CHALLENGE:
The main challenge lay in the design testing and material selection for the ring structure. The ring had to balance both softness and durability. if too soft, the product will deform; if too rigid, it will lose the cushioning effect. To achieve optimal results, the team underwent multiple design revisions and tests. Additionally, the manufacturing process for the bristles posed difficulties, particularly with the double-layer design that required beads on both the top and bottom, which demanded a high level of craftsmanship.
