PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residential Design

INSPIRATION:
Inspired by the family's passion for travel and art, Serpil Senyuz tailored the space to the owners needs, creating a resort-like ambience in this home, opening to a green forest view. The modern Art Deco style adorns the home with soft transitions, pure colors and natural materials integrated with custom-designed furniture. This elegant scenario is immortalised by the family's passion for art, which is displayed throughout the house and especially in the double-height living area, designed as the heart of the home.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Overlooking a lush green landscape, this house meets all the needs of a family of five and provides a unique backdrop to their colourful life with its timeless style. The open-plan living area with double-height gallery ceiling is the most remarkable place in the house, where every inch is meticulously designed. With one floor reserved for the parents and the children's play area on the top floor, it offers private areas for each member of the family.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
This project is a renovation of a mansion in Beykoz Istanbul, with a lush green view.Client is a young couple with three small children.Inspired by the family's passion for travel and art, Serpil Senyuz tailored the space to the owners' needs, creating a resort-like ambience. This three-storey, lift-serviced house has spacious communal areas and secluded family quarters.Open plan first floor, with high ceilings and a fireplace, is designed to foster warmth and togetherness. The second and third floors are the owner's and children's private areas.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
As a result of meticulous planning and dedicated work, the construction of the house took a total of 8 months.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The house has undergone extensive structural changes. Kitchen has been extended. Garage next to the entrance’s been converted into a cinema room. Open plan communal areas are on ground floor; first floor is dedicated to the master suite. Gallery above the fireplace has been partially enclosed to extend the master bedroom and create a dressing room. Children's bedrooms are on the third floor, and the attic is now a play area. Staircase was relocated, and two staircases merged to create easier access to rooftop play area.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Set in a large garden, the house has 600 square metres of living space over three floors and an attic floor. On the ground floor is the open plan living area, designed as a large gathering space. The large kitchen area, where the family likes to spend time, is also on the same floor and communicates with the living room. The second floor is separated by a large specially designed door that defines the boundaries of the parents' area. There is a large living area, a pleasant bar/kitchen area overlooking the gallery of the living room and openning to the master bedroom through a secret door. Third floor is divided into three different children's rooms and a guest bedroom. Attic floor has been transformed into a playground for children by opening the roof slopes and making the best use.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The project prioritized a user-centric and lifestyle-driven design. Initially, user needs and preferences were thoroughly investigated through observations, interviews, and surveys. The design considered factors like room count, size and environmental elements. An initial plan emphasized room layout and privacy, with open plan spaces for gatherings. Systematic approach was adopted in the design process, resulting in a home tailored to owners preferences.

CHALLENGE:
The biggest challenge during the construction and design phase was the difference in level on the ground floor. To overcome this, we used a small excavator bucket to bring the whole house to the same level. Thus, we both solved this problem and turned the situation into an advantage by gaining ceiling height. We had the chance to design a double height ceiling in the main living area which added depth and grandeur to the design.
