| DESIGN NAME: Dwelling S

 PRIMARY FUNCTION:
 Residential

 INSPIRATION:
The site is a merger of two residential units. The owner, a frequent traveler, wants a home that combines the comfort of a hotel with the warmth of a home. The designer came up with a modern and comfortable design solution that emphasizes a practical yet eye-catching wine cellar to showcase the wine collection. The project aims to satisfy the owner's desire for a high quality of life, while at the same time expressing his taste. A home is more than a residence, it is also a space to display one's personality and collection.

 UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The kitchen island dining table and the adjacent open area are the social centerpieces. To meet the owner's dual needs for aesthetics and functionality, the designer used a suspended table to create a solid table made of a combination of stone and wood. Without the square chair legs, the table is aesthetically pleasing, modern, and safe for children. The designer planned a fully transparent wine cellar with a stone-like exterior, aiming to properly display the wine collection while maintaining privacy. The special paint and large tiles give an intense look and quality, which is both modern and understated luxury.

 OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Positive feedback from the occupants centered on several aspects, i.e. enhanced comfort and tranquility. Owners pointed out that the new home is quieter and more comfortable than the previous one due to the openness of the space and the structural enhancements to improve sleep quality. Functional zoning has been optimized. The home allows for the separation of social and private activities and allows for the activities of children and adults to be carried out without interfering with each other. Flexibility in the use of space.

 PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project finished in August 2023 in Taiwan.

 | PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Materials used on a large scale include large slab tiles, Venetian paint, and marble-textured stone tiles. The color scheme is dark. The black Venetian special paint shapes a metallic, shimmering pattern. The details have a pearly veil effect, adding a modern and luxurious touch, and reinforcing the atmosphere of sophistication and luxury. The change of light between day and night separates the different areas through the contrast of materials and colors. In particular, the designer used darker colors in private areas such as the wine cellar and the audio-visual room.

 SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The site has a total area of 578.5 square meters and is a connection of two living units. The layout is four rooms, a living room, a dining room, and an audio-visual area. There is also a gymnasium, a reading room, and a children's playroom. Considering the circulation, the designer separated private and social areas to achieve a balance of functionality and privacy.

 RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The openness and functionality of the project satisfy the owner's pursuit of a high-quality life. The centerpiece of the dining room, with its kitchen island and adjoining open area, is the core of social interaction, ideal for gatherings of family and friends and showcasing the perfect combination of utility and aesthetics. The privacy of the wine cellar, with its stone exterior, showcases wines and serves as the highlight of the space, revealing the owner's personalized taste and pursuit of a high quality of life.

 CHALLENGE:
There were two challenges: the owner's extensive storage needs and the location of the bathtub. The homeowner needs a lot of storage space, especially for clothing and other personal items. The designer must figure out a solution that would be open and aesthetically pleasing within the limited space. In addition, the owner wants the bathtubs in each bathroom to face the windows, so the designer reconfigured the plumbing and layout.
