Applefest recognized as a 2025 Top 100 Award by

Festivals & Events Ontario

Brighton’s Applefest has been recognized by Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) as one of the Top 100 festivals across the province.

Recipients of a Top 100 Award represent festivals and events that excel in the industry. Applefest was considered in the fall of 2024 by submission and was judged by an independent panel of judges.

💬: “I'm so pleased that Applefest has been chosen as one of the Top 100 Festivals in Ontario! This award is reflective of the hard work over the last 50 years to build Applefest into what it is today. We would not have gotten to this point without the hours and hours of volunteer time along with the dedication of Brighton staff. Thank you to all who have been involved over the years to make our Applefest event one of the best!” - Laura Knegt, Applefest Chair

An award presentation was held during the March 3 Council Meeting with members of Brighton Council and the Applefest Advisory Committee.

The team at The Municipality of Brighton is committed to working together to meet the needs of our residents, visitors and those who choose to invest in our area. We dedicate ourselves to providing superior services to customers. For more information about each of our departments, visit the Municipal Services page on our website.

Amid the economic uncertainty that our neighbours from south of the border have created throughout the Canadian economy, the Municipality of Brighton's Economic Development Department is committed to support Brighton businesses of all sectors through this uncertainty. A brief, preliminary survey that the department conducted in early February was sent to close to 150 (about 30 completed the surveys) Brighton businesses revealed that there would be a moderate to significant impact on Brighton businesses if the USA introduced tariffs and in various ways the increased cost of imposing tariffs would be passed on to the consumer. Some sobering realities if the tariffs are imposed, however through the support of Mayor and Council, staff will be promoting Canadian made products and supporting local through various campaigns as well as supporting lobbying efforts that could influence USA policy makers to think this outcome through.

Throughout the month of March however we begin the transition to longer days, warmer sun and March Break for our local school families. There is lots going on in Brighton throughout March break as outlined in this newsletter so please take the time to slow down and enjoy the pace that the March Break has to offer and to get outdoors and enjoy some of the newly found fresh spring scented air that we have been missing.

-Ben Hagerman,

Manager of Economic Development & Communications

Love Local 🍁

With tariffs and counter-tariffs in effect on goods crossing the US-Canadian border it is now more important than ever to "love local".

Our local businesses are more than just storefronts – they are the sponsors behind local sports teams, top employers, and the heart and soul of the community.

As local businesses navigate the tariffs, counter-tariffs, and their impacts, we encourage all Brightonians to show their support by proudly supporting our local businesses.

To share resources and help you find local and Canadian-made products, we have created a 'Made in Canada, Bought In Brighton' Facebook Group. We encourage residents and businesses to join the group and upload photos and locations of Canadian and locally made products that can be found in Brighton.

You can join the page by clicking here.

In addition to the Facebook Page, over the next few weeks, we will be rolling out our Love Local campaign to remind you that when you shop and love local, you’re supporting your neighbours and the community at large.
