A technique is directed to methods and systems for evaluating patches for third-party applications for information technology or security-safety before installation. The patch evaluation system determines if a software patch is safe before making the patch available for installation. If the patch evaluation system determines a patch is unsafe, the patch is quarantined, placed in a queue for manual review, and/or is designated as not available for installation. For example, the system evaluates every patch for known malware before making that patch available to users for installation.
