Ekot Un coup de coeur total, quelle force, quelles mélodies, une maitrise spectaculaire de la scène orchestrale. Rien écouté de tel. Un grand coup de pied explosif dans le registre punk noise. Merci ! Favorite track: The Wind to Wash the Pain.

zdzis A wonderful mix of "heavy" guitars and punk energy. I feel like I'm the target audience; I love the way Louis' voice breaks in every phrase, as well as the way his English breaks over his Francophone soul. It's so real, so powerful, so infectious! Favorite track: Black Chyme.

this is careless and hurtful for our ageing throats to be preaching the wild souls as no one else can bring us back home we're chewing our tongue and season our wretched voice preaching the wild souls lost in the void our pointless moans replace those of faceless sons we missed the halt a while ago we're just sticking to modest roles embrace the void this is crushing our kneecaps and crooked arms to be dancing with wild souls but no one else will walk us back home we're dragging our hips and ankles weak limping waltz dancing as wild souls deep in the void our dryed up source died with your teenage ball we parched ourselves a while ago we're just sticking to modest goals embrace the void and those who haven’t quit yet won’t dare a step above all those who don't drift but reach for normal hopes muzzling their wild souls will end a step above step above this is careless and hurtful for our ageing throats to be preaching the wild souls lost in the void our pointless moans replace those of faceless sons we missed the halt a while ago we're just sticking to modest roles all those who don't drift but reach for normal hopes will stay safe and end a step above stuck at the crossroad proud but sure lost we missed the parade they're all a step above

how could we separate true lies and tricks from surrogates when all we’re getting here turns fake ? we’ve lost our references in modern states in the ages of all concerns what we're told here is all there is outraged, misled or saved bound to the science of our western peers there is a reason for our senses to go wild we'll find our reasons to believe it from both sides there is a feel that none of us will survive we've always seeked true common sense, but not this time far more dangerous than all we've seen far more vicious than all we've chased outraged, misled or saved we'll see our instincts turning into rage there is a reason for our senses to go wild we'll find our reasons to believe it from both sides there is a feel that none of us will survive we've always seeked true common sense, but not this time for all we dumped in the void never came back as worse our emotions mirrored seek a heaven to curse another paradise uncorrupted by time we call for paradise unperfected and wild

old wrinkles, carving canyons and holes furrows on our faces - betraying lines wrinkles, can you see them at all see them all we hang up our dimples on top of the wall forgotten in the slots of shivering wood poles we already heard death ringing the door bell ( or ) crawling below - crawling below old wrinkles, carving canyons and holes furrows on our faces - betraying lines wrinkles, eddies of our souls in plain sight see them all stirring time across our faded face, our melting fate, and glooming age traitors, judas, squatters of our scalps, riddles of our smiles straighten them now, outrageous old scars cover their holes, straighten those lines we loathe deception arises, lingered in its trench oh wrinkles, shimmer in our eyes through their holes and furrows wrinkles, eddies of our souls in plain sight see them all stirring time across our faded face, our melting fate and glooming age deception arises, lingered patient in its trench will catch (gets) us at last

we feed our self destructive feelings for all the signs prove us we should leave hopes right where we found them see the marks on our skin will trace the time we have spent on our knees holding our bile and our head will keep spinning at least for a while until it goes blind allright hold it 'til it hurts man up hide it until and we watch it come out nothing we've swallowed shall be found nothing ever before it covers the ground allright hold it - our guts burst nothing ever, no single drop of our bile shall be found hold it til it hurts nothing we've swallowed shall be found

turnovers - watertight - we lack an alibi calendars - standardised - excuse all but dont justify how can we fail in the defence of our shrinking time ? middle class - sparing dimes - killing our time stand now for a while - postures analyzed (go) back to the origin - now trace the facts why make a handful of riots while average avengers classify - rate our life - trample our house a handful of riots should reorganize how we're wasting our lives uuuh look at those proud elites playing supermen selling dreams in close space interleaved systems never subject to fail shading our skies with relentless relays while we the fragile the people of clay are crowding the streets and sitting in circles we're defending our future by letting it fail we're preaching non-sense for those that will stay breathing fine holding on to ignoring slurs us freaks won't surrender to the daily stress you're living under hated above all are those who crossed the line how bad will their mysterious reflections and thoughts affect the flaking sparkles of your mirrors or sprain the tired ankles of your ancestors tell me how could they behave like normal if locked down in cages like cattle, unpowered and spoiled

how could we make up for days and years of wait despite our tries the pressure’s immense we should stitch our mouths hold back our lies it feels the real trip now begins cut the fence and break the ban we won't track this trace nor back it up should we swim away and surf the flood or mark our wrists and lick the blood can we fix this game and try not to call it off ? and question all we used to endorse embrace some real hindsight then close our lids and pray for brighter light we could trick our eyes, invent it all or read this once and tear it up looks like we missed the chance to fix it all despite our tries, the pressure’s immense we won't track this trace nor back it up we won’t mark our wrists and lick the blood can we fix this game and try not to call it off ? and question all we used to endorse embrace some real hindsight then close our lids and pray for brighter light we could trick our eyes, invent it all or read this once and tear it up

dark wind blowing on our panes carries angst and menaces echoes and debris of parades miles away from where we fled to isolate hear these scraps of songs and crumbs of laughter carried high in our shaded skies stripes of smoke thin beams of light slowly gather and propagate is it sane to implicate our hearts and intricate our lives will it be vain to flee the fears we now should face hear these scraps of songs and crumbs of laughter carried high in our shaded skies stripes of smoke thin beams of light slowly gather and propagate feel these hints of joy through waves of despair blinking low in our tired eyes quick bursts of hope through restless nights surely doomed to evaporate is it sane to implicate our hearts and intricate our lives will it be vain to flee the fears we now should face down to the basic needs home with our closest peers waiting for the remedies who will miss out when time will freeze

about

« Odd Love is a way to summarize our relationship with music in itself, the overall music business and our band life. We're amazed how long this band has lasted so far and the importance is has taken in our life, knowing how randomly it started. Our music has always been a sane yet intense way to process all the light and deep things we were going through in ou personal lives. Oddness is our nomality and love is our motor to achieve it. It took us a long time to fit somewhere in a scene, since we never believed and cared so much about scenes. Our drive was to get on stage and tore it down, and we found out pretty quickly that it would be hard to turn this energy into a business plan. Through the years we tried to cherish this strangeness while adapting to this gigantic chaos that is music today. This has for instance seen us start our own label and create most of our tools from scratch. We've obviously learned a lot together, and this whole process has taught us to love ourselves for what we are: a noisy odd band from a tidy watchmaking city. » - Louis Jucker

Much of ‘Odd Love’ was initially written by guitarist and founder Jona Nido alone at home during the first two months of the Spring 2020 COVID lockdown.

“The starting point for the process of the new record was to go back to where Coilguns actually started, which was Jona writing songs and asking us to arrange them with him.“ Jucker said.

Nido wrote and prepared 14 demos to show Hess, Jucker and Galland. They worked on the songs together but intentionally let the collection sit for weeks or even months afterward, before revisiting some songs whose meaning had changed for them. “It made us go into so much detail that we’ve never had the time to go into,” Nido said. “We had decided to break all patterns. We knew that we were at the end of a certain era”.

Breaking down—and breaking out of—their usual process provided the musicians with challenges that grew into great rewards. They recorded a first version of the album at their home studio, before travelling to the legendary Norwegian studio Ocean Sound, where Arcade Fire, Cult of Luna and others have also recorded, and flew American producer Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Thrice, Ghoul) across the ocean to free them from any technical duties and benefit from the man incredible inputs and experience when it comes to get the best out of « a band in a room ». These three weeks were a life changing experience for both parties.

Coilguns did much of the artistic production on Odd Love themselves, but also recruited Grammy-nominated producers Tom Dalgety (The Pixies, Ghost, Royal Blood) and Robin Schmidt (Liam Gallagher, The Gaslight Anthem) to mix and master the album.
