about

How to be a dog is my debut album as Collie Perfect, and features a mix of abstract techno, IDM, and ambient inspired tracks. It's something that I've been working on over the past few months since some big changes in my life and has been a single goal for me to work towards during that period. The name of the album comes from a poem by Andrew Kane which resonates with me a lot, and ties together a lot of the themes I had in mind surrounding this album.

Two huge sources of inspiration for me while working on this project were Patricia Taxxon and her immensely prolific discography, and Bullant's albums 'Tyson, Crying' and 'Late Life Circ'. I also spent a lot of time this year listening to a lot of local artists and their work in field recording, harsh noise, and tracker based music, who's talents no doubt rubbed off on me when creating this LP. An additional special thanks goes out to local artists Heather Vomiting God and Amy Rogers for continually providing feedback for me during the creation process of this album. All of these musicians I've mentioned are absolutely worth checking out and supporting.

This album is about learning to be a dog. It's about fucking up and making difficult changes for yourself, about transitioning as a young adult in an unfamiliar environment, and about intense and conflicting emotions in uncertain times. It's about having ears and a tail and also about being completely out of it. It's about your partner going through pain, it's about your trauma. This album is not about being perfect, but finishing what you started.

This album is about figuring out how to be a dog.
