A pileated woodpecker repeatedly pecks at a large, light-colored tree trunk in a grassy area, its red crest and black-and-white body visible as it moves its head back and forth. The bird remains perched on the side of the tree, striking the wood with its beak in a continuous, rhythmic motion.
