VIKTORIA CAMPBELL on Instagram: "Tips for Working with Denim: ✨Use a denim needle (90/14 or 100/16) ✨Adjust the tension as needed, and use a longer stitch length (3–4 mm) for stronger seams. ✨Trim bulky areas, sew slowly to avoid needle breakage. ✨ Use the right thread—heavy-duty or polyester thread designed for denim, and make sure it matches the color. ✨ Always test on scrap fabric first. P.S. This is just a demo—on a real project, you’d use thick thread made for denim, matching the color. #sewingblog #sewingtips #sewingtutorial #fashionstudent #sewingtipsandtricks #sewingforbeginners"

a person is working on a sewing machine
191K views · 2.7K reactions | #beginnersewing #sewingtips #sewingproject #sewing | By Tutorial sewing | A sewing machine technician's guide to cleaning and oiling your sewing machine. The same principles are going to apply for every machine that has a top loading bobbin like this one. We're going to start from the top down. First thing we're going to do open up your face plate cover and look for any dust, lint and brush it out and really what you want to check for is for thread that's gotten caught up in these mechanisms. Mine looks to be okay but if you see thread being caught up in there you want to take some tweezer and very carefully pull it out. You don't want to snap it because then it's just going to leave the rest of it jammed in there. You're going to try to unwind it the way it wound itself. Next you're going to want to take off your needle plate and pluck out your bobbin case. So we're going to look in here. Mine's not too bad. But first you're going to start with brushing out big pieces and make sure that you're doing this in an upwards motion. What you don't want to do is accidentally push dust further into the machine. So you're going to start with kind of an upwards lifting motion to get all that stuff out. And afterwards I like to go over it with a Q-tip. And that just picks up all the little specs that the brush leaves behind. You're going to want to do the same thing for your bobbin case. Clean it thoroughly with the Q tip on all sides. One place you want to have a good look at is the tip of your hook. This is the part that actually goes behind the needle and forms a stitch. Often at the tip of hook it will develop burs and rough spots from needle strikes and what not. This is going to cause all sorts of thread snagging, bunching up all sorts of problems. So if you see any needle strikes or rough marks what you can do is take some really fine sandpaper maybe start at 600 grit, then move up to 1200 grit and just try to sand off that rough spot. And if that doesn't help maybe it's time to take it to a professional. To clean your tension discs what we're going to do is First make sure that the presser foot is raised. This make sure that the tension discs are split apart and there's room for us to clean in between them. Now you're going to take a clean piece of lint free fabric and you're going to floss it through the tension disc area. Now what we're trying to do is just clear away any dust or dirt or grime that's sitting there so that we can get nice even tension. That's all it takes. Now it's time to oil. We're going to start with the needle bar. Now this is the main needle bar and there's two spots where it frictions with the machine. The top part and then the bottom part. So you're going to want to put a tiny drop of oil on each of those spots. So one right there and one right where the machine meets with the needle bar. Tiny tiny drops of oil. You really don't need much at all. Moving down to the bobbin area. If your machine has a little wick in the centre you can put one little drop of oil in there. The last spot I want you to oil is there's this little ridge on the hook and this is where the bobbin case actually sits in and so you're going to put the tiniest little drop of oil on this ridge right here. Once you that you are good to put your bobbin case back in and reassemble your machine and start sewing. I hope this helps. Follow for more.
