Genetic mutation that made Vincent van Gogh's sunflowers unique has been mapped by scientists
Genetic secrets of Van Gogh's sunflowers: Van Gogh's sunflowers in the famous series show a mutant variant of sunflowers w/bands of yellow 'double flowers', distinct from the usual single whorl of flattened florets. The double version, favoured by the artist more than 100 years ago have a smaller proportion of internal disc. Now scientists at University of GA have worked to understand the mutation this using techniques of Gregor Mendel (genetics) to recreate the flowers. dailymail.co.uk
