Holly Gage Contemporary Jewelry

Gage Designs by Holly Gage. The need to create is an essential and personal form of my self-expression. Miniature sculptures, pictorial scenes, and symbolic use of materials and imagery, replace words as a form of communication. I welcome others into my world by means of my jewelry designs in an effort to share an intimate slice of life, idealistic thought, or deep emotion. http://www.HollyGage.com

Radiant Opal Pendant Tutorial by Holly Gage
Bold design and delicate textures surround beautiful Fire in Place Cultured Opals. You’ll create intricate open spaces and surface textures with your rotary tool and various burs in the greenware stage of your Silver Metal Clay. Then you’ll capture the allure of Heat-Resistant Cultured Opals having all the radiance and iridescence you love. These can be fired at 1650º F or 900º C without burning up from the extreme heat needed to sinter the Metal Clay. Learn the secrets to success.

Warrior Scar Jewelry Workshops by Healing Phoenix Arts Program
Can you believe the pattern on this jewelry is from burn scars? They are both beautiful and powerful symbols of strength and resilience. Christopher and I are hosting a Warrior Scar Jewelry Workshop this year at a Pre-World Burn Congress session. We combine art with discussion as a healing modality by replicating a healed scar from their traumatic experience. From past events, the workshop is transformative. No prior skills are needed for the survivor.
This 3-day is about pampering you, from your artistic experience to the gourmet food. Working with more Fire in Place Opals. This one is Cool Mint
I’m trying a new Fire in Place Opal. 5mm facet cut Cool Mint. I show using liquid frisket to act as a resist from the liver of sulfur around and behind the stone. Polishing with 3M bristle discs for a brushed finish. And finally burnishing with the side of a pin tool in the back for ultimate reflectivity. •

Whimsical Secretary Bird

I finished a fun Whimsical Critter. She is a Secretary Bird. She is sassy and flirty and always wears her best feathers.

She is hollow, with a blown glass eye, hand sculpted in 960 Sterling Metal Clay, textured in the greenware stage by rotary tool-carving and photopolymer plates impressions of my own drawings. Her Sapphire briolette earring moves as your hips swing. Finally, she is worn as a pendant.

For the Love of Jewelers podcast: Holly Gage
Award-winning jeweler and certified metal clay instructor Holly Gage of Gage Designs is an active conference speaker and respected author on jewelry techniques. While her creative journey began at a young age, it wasn’t until mid-adulthood that Holly learned more about her dyslexia and how art helped her to find her voice. “My creativity, visual, spatial strengths, and problem-solving skills are the positive attributes; the flip side of dyslexia,” she says.
