Embroidery on painting

New Zealand artist Fleur Woods' signature form of mark making is stitching on painted fabric, which creates intricate, detailed and precious pieces.

Memories often are described colloquially as being woven into our brains, threaded through our minds in ways that affect our every day. For Cécile Davidovici, though, memories and lengthy stitches hold a different relationship, and weaving her thread paintings is a process of remembering rather than the state of the memory itself. We humans have the unique ability to take something ordinary and add a little extra to it.

"In the embroidery that I carefully crafted on A3 paper, each flower has its own unique character. By using threads in all colors ranging from red to yellow, green to blue, this artwork reflects the pains, joys, hopes, and happiness of women's lives. The colorful breath that I added to a vintage photograph reminds us how beautiful crying can be. I hope this artwork has touched the hearts of all viewers."
