Halloween Sentence Fragments Practice - Halloween Writing and Editing Activity

Do your students struggle with sentence fragments and writing complete sentences? These fun Halloween themed activities will help give your students plenty of practice with recognizing and correcting sentence fragments in multiple ways. First, students practice editing and correcting sentence fragments within a short passage. Next, they get sentence writing practice by adding their own ideas to a given fragment. This is also a great opportunity to encourage your students to get creative and add details to make their sentences more interesting. ⭐️ What you'll get (see preview or video above for a closer look): one-page handout with a brief explanation of what fragments are and how to correct them editing activity with three short Halloween-themed passages for students to correct the sentence fragment errors 24 task cards that come in 3 printable versions so that you can choose the format that best suits your class: Set of 24 Task cards with colorful Halloween clip art (Response Sheet included). Each includes an incomplete sentence. It may be a phrase or a dependent clause. Students need to add their own ideas to make the sentence complete. Smaller task cards in black and white and with limited clip art. You may choose this option to save ink or if you have older students for whom the clip art may not work as well. A two-page work sheet that contains all the sentence fragments and space for students to write their sentences. This may be helpful for saving prep time or if you just prefer not to use task cards. A paperless (Google Slides) version of the above task cards is also included. There are various ways to use the task cards. You may choose to use them as centers or small group work, or even to practice one sentence fragment at a time and compare your students’ corrected versions. This is a good way to focus on sentence structure (correct any problems with grammar or run-on sentences, etc.) or adding specific details for better and more interesting sentences.
