about
Portuguese ritual ambient entity WOLFSKIN returns with Ring of Spheres, a transcendental new work that expands the project’s long-standing devotion to metaphysical sound into cosmic territory. Conceived as a meditative and transformative journey, Ring of Spheres distills the essence of ritual music to its purest form: vibration, resonance, and spiritual ascent.
Recorded across a series of focused sessions with gongs and analog electronics, Ring of Spheres marks one of WOLFSKIN’s most disciplined and immersive explorations to date. The album is built entirely from these two elemental sound sources, a deliberate limitation that births vast sonic worlds from minimal matter. Each tone unfolds like the motion of celestial bodies, each pulse echoing through the void, forming a “cosmic liturgy” that blurs the boundaries between physical and spiritual space.
The conceptual framework of Ring of Spheres draws from Hermetic Alchemy, guiding the listener through the seven classical stages of the Magnum Opus, from the nigredo of dense matter and human limitation, through the successive refinements of albedo, citrinitas, and finally into rubedo, the red dawn of spiritual union. Each track mirrors a phase of transmutation, leading toward the ultimate Sublimation, the dissolution of the material self into pure, radiant consciousness.
The album unfolds as an extended act of meditation and initiation. The gongs act as both instrument and symbol: circular, radiant, resonant, their sound waves describing the eternal cycles of creation and dissolution. Electronic textures weave through them like invisible currents, mapping a vast stellar architecture of sound.
At once austere and luminous, Ring of Spheres stands as a testament to WOLFSKIN’s capacity to merge esoteric vision with sonic craft. It is music as philosophical practice, as ritual gesture, as alchemy in vibration, a mirror of the cosmos rendered in sound.
