Before there were duct tape dresses, there were feed sack dresses. Thrifty Patsy McCoy from Shelbyville, Tenn., used feed sacks gathered on her father’s farm to create these stunning designs, featured in the July 20, 1947 issue of Parade.
The fabric of my life
When I was a kid, feed, flour and sugar came in sacks made of fabric, which mother reused to make my dresses. It was a big deal to pick out the sack you wanted for a dress when daddy bought feed.
