Skye Hamilton • Home & Garden • Hydrangea Queen on Instagram: "I recommend waiting until your Bigleaf /Macrophylla hydrangea is 50-75% leafed out before cutting back any of the “ dead sticks”. Use the scratch test to see if the wood is still viable. If the wood is green underneath, don’t cut. If it’s brown, cut it down. Those dead branches are caused by a few different things. If you live in a higher growing zone, it’s generally caused by a freak frost/freeze. Comment COVERING to get the link to my tutorial. The buds of a Bigleaf hydrangea are only hardy to about 15° in the winter, and are very sensitive to frost once they’ve started to open. A late frost will many times kill the plant back to the ground leaving just sticks and new growth only coming from the bottom.

Anya Lautenbach on Instagram: "To create interest in this corner without breaking the bank I stuttered erigeron seeds collected in my own garden. I have sown my seeds along the wall and between the steps. Erigeron is a drought tolerant plant and it will grow anywhere including in cracks of walls and between the paving slabs. Erigeron seeds are like fairy dust. With this simple and money-saving task and with the help of Nature I have soften this area and made it more attractive. I have included details about this project and all the step-by-step instructions for you to follow in my book on page 57. PS. Just quickly explaining the bone situation on the wall. Both my sons are into natural history and science and when they were little, we used to go to the woods to look for animal bones

Richard Banahan on Instagram: "Want to give your terracotta pots that stunning aged, rustic look? Here’s how I do it: Most important: Wear protective gloves and use a mask if indoors while handling garden lime. 1. Mix together garden lime, peat (or garden soil - to darken lime mix), and water to create a paint-like mixture. 2. Apply it generously to your terracotta pots. 3. Leave the paint to dry, but sand the corners to reveal that beautiful weathered effect. 4. For that perfect patina, smear fresh-cut grass or leaves over the surface. It adds that extra touch of vintage charm! These pots age better when left outdoors! It gives your pots that timeless, weathered look. Pot your favorite plants in them and top with moss. You can grab these gorgeous terracotta pots (in a range of size
