The Old West aka Wild West encompasses the period after the Civil War, the rest of the 1800s, and the early part of the 20th century up to 1912, when the last mainland states entered the Union. The American West had all sorts of people from pioneers and scouts to lawmen, outlaws, gangs and gunfighters, to the American cowboy, and pioneering women on the frontier.

Robert Olinger - Killer With a Badge. Though Robert "Bob” Olinger was a lawman, he was actually better known as a killer with a penchant for fighting in range wars. In 1876 he was named marshal of Seven Rivers in Lincoln County, New Mexico. However, the job was short lived as he was soon fired when he was suspected of consorting with an outlaw band. This would be the "norm” for Olinger. His participation in the Lincoln County War would be a fatal mistake as he was shot dead by Billy the Kid
L.G. Murphy. 1831-1878. More than anyone else, L. G. Murphy was the seed that slowly grew into the cauldron that ignited the infamous Lincoln County War. At one time, Murphy and his associates controlled most if not all of the economic and political interests in Lincoln County NM. His stranglehold consisted of a mercantile store and lucrative government beef contracts. When John Tunstall arrived in Lincoln, his empire became threatened and it ended in Tunstall's death in 1878.
