But Daemon has something else in mind: If we all sound like singing robots right now, what will we do to set ourselves apart in the future?

The answer, to Daemon, is a return to the roots of the form. The flow. The samples. The little bit of dust that makes a beat feel alive. It’s all there on “I’m From the Future,” a mixtape that pushes hip-hop forward in time by respecting the past. And with a list of partners including Grammy-winning producer Jayson “KoKo” Bridges, artists Family Affair and Midwest Avengers, producers Adrians Beats and Steve Spiffler, and fellow BLK Breakfast artist Zech Biship, it’s also a celebration of the collaborative spirit of hip-hop.
