Hi, my name is
David Mgbede.
I'm a Frontend Engineer dedicated to creating intuitive, responsive web applications — collaborating with teams to deliver seamless user experiences that live on the internet.
A bit about me
I started out self-taught, no bootcamp, no shortcuts. Just curiosity, late nights, and a genuine obsession with understanding how things work on the web. What began as tinkering with HTML and CSS slowly grew into something I couldn't walk away from. Over the years, that curiosity evolved into a career, from frontend developer to frontend engineer, and I haven't stopped learning since.
As the world shifted toward AI, I shifted with it, deliberately. I've spent time learning the concepts behind AI engineering and putting them into practice, building AI-powered features that actually solve real problems. Not because it was trending, but because I believe the future of great products lives at the intersection of intelligent systems and thoughtful interfaces.
Beyond the code, I'm a developer advocate, an AI advocate, and a mentor. I care deeply about the people coming up behind me in tech — sharing what I know, being honest about the hard parts, and showing up consistently. That's what has shaped my reputation and kept me relevant in an ecosystem that never slows down.

Community & Leadership
Where it all started, and where I still show up.
KodeCamp
KodeCamp is where my journey in tech officially began. In 2022, I joined as a bootcamp student with zero professional experience, just curiosity and a drive to figure things out. That bootcamp is where I learned frontend development from the ground up, earned my certificate, and built the foundation that eventually became my career. After graduating, I was given the opportunity to give back, serving as Community Manager for 4 months, helping shape the same environment that shaped me. Today I'm still an active part of the community, because you don't forget where you started.
Joined KodeCamp in 2022 as a bootcamp student, completed the frontend development program, and earned a certificate that marked the official start of my engineering career.
Served as Community Manager for 4 months, facilitating knowledge sharing, peer programming sessions, and structured discussions among 100+ developers.
Organized mentorship initiatives connecting junior developers with experienced engineers, helping members build practical skills and real portfolio projects.
Curated and shared learning resources, job opportunities, and frontend best practices to support members' career growth.
Still an active community member, staying connected, contributing where I can, and paying forward what the community gave me.
Thoughts & Writing
I write about AI engineering, LLMs, RAG, and the concepts most tutorials skip — helping 1,000+ developers understand what's actually happening under the hood.
Why Naive RAG Fails on Complex Data (And Nobody Tells You)
Most tutorials show you how to build a RAG pipeline. Almost none of them tell you where it quietly breaks — and why complex data exposes every weakness in a naive setup.
