ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY – On 16th June, 632 AD, Yazdegerd III ascended to the throne as king (shah) of the Persian Empire, aged only 8 years old. He becomes the last ruler of the Sasanian dynasty. The Sasanian Empire was the last Iranian empire before the rise of Islam, ruled by the Sasanian dynasty from 224 to 651 AD. It is considered to have been one of Iran's most important and influential historical periods, and constituted the last great Iranian empire before the Muslim conquest.
