Beekeeping on the Homestead — Anne of All Trades
I like the quote “If you like bees, build an apiary; if you like honey, find a friend who has an apiary.” Keeping bees is a fascinating and rewarding hobby, but can get very expensive and can be discouraging without the right equipment and mentorship. Click through to find out the types of bee hives, the benefits of beekeeping and tips for a successful beekeping. | Farm Life | Hone Bees | Apiary | Homesteading Tips | Lear New Skills | Anne of All Trades
Building Barn Stalls + Other Goat Related Things! — Anne of All Trades
We made this DIY goat fence almost entirely from reclaimed and recycled materials. We also used hardware brought from our old farm in Seattle and some found around the barn here in Nashville! Everything in this simple homesteading barn improvement project, aside from the 4x4 and two 2x4s used, was found free of charge. The gate was an old bed frame we found in the barn and disassembled. | DIY Projects | Anne of All Trades | YouTube
How to Build a Self Cleaning Mobile Chicken Coop — Anne of All Trades
Head on over to YouTube and check this tiny barn chicken coop out, I’d love to know what you think! This coop offers so much automation and versatility to really get the most out of our chickens with as little work/input from me as possible here on the farm. They help control ticks, flies, parasites and mosquitoes, forage on grass and weeds, aerate the pasture and fertilize the grass, all while making rich, beautiful eggs. | Farm Projects | Chicken Tractor | Anne of All Trades | YouTube

How to Install a Driveway Gate — Anne of All Trades
A new puppy and a busy Seattle street meant installing a driveway gate was a necessary project. From setting the posts in concrete to sharing a few tips on hanging a tube gate, I had a blast building this gate with my friend Stu and Rigby Puppy is now safe and sound. These Behlen Country farm tube gates are fairly easy to hang, but it's important you brace and set your posts properly to avoid sagging over time. Farm Projects | Anne of All Trades | YouTube
Choosing the Best Animals for Your Farm — Anne of All Trades
Making the jump to dairy on the homestead is a big one, so it’s important to pick the right animal for your needs and your farm. Livestock is a huge investment, both time and financially. They can add SO much to your land, but, if mismanaged, can also take SO much away from it. It's a big responsibility to milk regularly. But, for me, adding dairy to my homestead was, by far, the best thing I've done. Farm Life | Homesteading | Anne of All Trades | Instagram @anneofalltrades
How Farming with Livestock Can Save the Planet — Anne of All Trades
For much of the last 100 years, researchers and scientists alike have been placing a huge portion of blame for the earth’s desertification process on farmers raising livestock. However, researchers like Allan Savory have now proven that desertification is actually caused, not by the introduction of animals, but, on the contrary, the REMOVAL of large herds of grazing animals. Thankfully, There’s HOPE. | Anne of All Trades
How to Build a Shed for Alpacas | Quick & Easy Woodworking Project — Anne of All Trades
Drop everything and build an ALPACA PALACE! Everything on the farm came to a stop last week when I found out we were getting ALPACAS! I had to build a quick structure using recycled building materials to facilitate their transition period- to acclimate them to our livestock guardian dogs and to give them their own "spot" they can return for meals, shelter and training. Build your own three walled shed using whatever you've got using this simple DIY design. | Anne of All Trades | Youtube
Timber Frame Pergola Plans — Anne of All Trades
Timber Framing is a fantastic way to build strong, lasting structures and practice basic woodworking joinery on a large scale with fairly large margins of error (aka - a great learning opportunity). This is a basic shed design that makes use of mortise and tenon, half-lapped and pegged joints. If you're in need of a garden pergola, a wood shed, a place to store your lawnmower, this is a great weekend project that will last a really, really long time. Woodworking Ideas | Anne of All Trades
Happy Fluffy Butt Friday! | Farm Life with Beef Cattle — Anne of All Trades
The bigger and more powerful an animal is, the more that’s at stake when you sidle up for a snuggle. These lady cows are not quite ready for snuggles yet, but I’ve been earning their trust bit by bit with handfuls of Chaffhaye every time I walk by. The cows were looking awfully stately at sunset after the snowpocalypse two weeks ago, and I’ve been saving this one to share. Look at that sun glistening off the bum in the last pic!
