Construction on the Puente Colgante suspension bridge across the Pasig River started in 1849 and was completed in 1852 and lasted to the early 1930s. With photographic evidence I believe that the original bridge was of wood and hemp rope construction. That the bridge was originally of steel construction may be a mistaken belief carried on from one person to the next.
