Product Details

This is an all-inclusive 5-step lesson plan for a continent research project. Lesson plans are included both for distance learning (ie. a virtual classroom such as Zoom) or in person settings. This lesson plan uses UDL (Universal Design for Learning) principles by allowing choice of continent as well as multiple means of action and expression through the choice of project format. Students will be introduced to the seven continents with an interactive map quiz game. Then, they will choose a continent and read an article about it. (Links are provided to the free quiz game and free articles about each continent.) Students will then create and present a project to demonstrate their learning. Students can choose from the following project formats: Create a Google Slides presentation about their continent. Write 2-4 detailed paragraphs about their continent. Draw a detailed picture about their continent and write a description below the picture. Create a video using Flipgrid summarizing key points about their continent. Of course, teachers are free to modify or adjust the project options as needed. A Google Slides presentation template is included for students who choose format #1. Students can either work on their project individually or as a group, depending on the teacher's preference. The skills addressed in this lesson are geography, reading comprehension, and presenting skills, making this project a perfect choice for integrating English language arts and social studies or geography.
