Sakura Mochi is a very popular Japanese sweet, now in spring it is the right time to prepare and serve it. It is also eaten traditionally on Hina Matsuri, Japanese Girls’ Day.

Scattered sushi ("chirashi-zushi"). This dish is traditionally served to celebrate Girl's Festival Day ("Hina-Matsuri") on March 3rd. The ingredients differ depending on the region. Fresh ingredients in each region was used to make a frugal but gorgeous dish to celebrate the occasion. This is one way that parents taught their girls to be frugal.
