Homesteading | Getting Chicks This Spring?
What would you add to the list? ✍️ 📸 creator: @thewilstead (via Instagram) “Here is your basic guide to what you’ll need to prepare for those adorable baby chickees! Everything listed is what I personally have used but I am not at all sponsored by this store or brands mentioned. ❤️ • BROODER Your little babies need a safe place to sleep right? Luckily, there’s so many low cost ways to set up a brooder. You can use an old dog crate, storage bin, small animal playpen. Seriously, Pinterest is your friend for this one! • BEDDING Next, you’ll want to fill that brooder with deep, comfy bedding. We used fine pine shavings to start and then added in pine flakes later on. There’s several types of bedding you can use, the only type you should stay away from is cedar. The scent can be toxic.
It was a chicken chore kinda day during toddler nap time 🐣 PS my ancestors were Scottish and I love Celtic music 🎵 #backyardchickens #backyardflock #raisingchicks #pastureraisedeggs #chickencoop #chickencoopideas #chickencoopdesign #chickencoopsofinstagram #chickencoopplans #homestead #homesteadliving #homesteadinglife #tryingtohomestead #homeschoolcollective #homeschoolmama #meyerhatchery #meyerhatcherychickens #babychicks🐣 #babychicksofinstagram #babychicks #homeandgarden #homesandgardens...
Homesteading | What To Add To Your Nesting Boxes To Keep Pests Away
Did you know that dried herbs, flowers, and diatomaceous earth help to keep pests away? Link to the dry herbs she used in her bio! 👇🏼 📸 creator: @hens_and_honeybees_ (via Instagram) “Did you know that dried herbs, flowers, and diatomaceous earth help to keep pests away? Chickens are prone to getting ticks and mites, and other insects like to lay eggs or live in the nesting boxes. The smell of the herbs drives bugs away, and the hens love eating them while they lay! The diatomaceous earth kills insects that come into contact with it, and it’s safe for chickens! You can even put it on your hens to kill any mites on them!” . .
