DFLforever passed away on Thursday, August 15. She had just turned 86 years old four days before her death. She posted very seldomly; in fact, she hadn't posted since 2014, but she recommended posts through early August of this year. She was a star member who had been part of DU since 2002. She was also my mother. Because of her infrequent posts, few of you will know her, but she was a committed Democrat, who in her younger and middle-aged years volunteered to get out the vote in nearly every local and federal election. She especially loved Barack Obama and was a fervent supporter of Joe Biden. She was also excited about the Harris-Walz ticket, being a Minnesotan, born and raised in St. Paul.
I initially didn't want to post a thread, but this is the only way I can get her added to the In Memoriam page, which I believe she deserves due to her long-standing commitment to DU.
If you are so disposed, she asked in her will that memorial contributions be made to Doctors without Borders. donate.doctorswithoutborders.org It is, after all, a great cause.

(484 posts)Condolences on your loss. I tried donating to Doctors Without Borders, but kept failing. so, instead, I just donated to Democratic Underground. I too love Doctors Without Borders, and often contribute to them, but since I was having difficulty, and since your mother was a long-time DU-er, I hope that this will serve her memory as well.

They are truly heroes and heroines on this earth for the services they provide. I will think of your mom as I continue to support Doctors Without Borders. (29,542 posts)As a long-time GOTV volunteer, myself, I have to say your mom made a lasting impact not only on the election results to which she donated her time and energy, but on the spirit of other volunteers who spent time alongside her, many younger and just learning the ropes and feeling a larger sense of democratic community from her enthusiasm and dedication. And each person that she converted or persuaded to get to the polls still carries at some level of consciousness a bit of the conversation she had with them. The number of votes she impacted, and may even continue to impact, cant be quantified but guaranteed, your mom made a lasting difference.
I honor her in my heart and wish you comfort and peace.
