‘Boots’
Netflix’s new series Boots is based on the true story of Greg Cope White, a Marine-turned-writer who kept his homosexuality hidden while he served his country in the early ’90s. The show follows Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer), a closet gay teen who, tired of being victimized by bullies, joins the Marines with his straight best friend Ray (Liam Oh). Over the course of his grueling training, Cameron finds himself perennially challenged by his instructors and his fellow recruits. But there’s no one Cameron struggles to face more than himself. Boots is one of the last projects produced by Norman Lear before the legend’s death and maintains his dedication to great storytelling, sharp jokes, and compassionate politics.
