‘Superman’ (2025)
One of the biggest movies of the summer, Superman, is now available to stream at home. The latest big-screen outing to feature the Man of Steel is the first in the new DC Universe, debuting a new Superman in David Corenswet (replacing the Henry Cavill in the DCEU). Directed by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, Superman follows the titular hero during a week in his life where he faces unexpected consequences after intervening in an international dispute orchestrated by Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and must win back the favor of the public. Corenswet is the perfect Superman, but I almost preferred the scenes where he was just a guy in a secret relationship with his coworker Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). Corenswet and Brosnahan’s chemistry is integral to the story and they’re electric when they share the screen. If this film, with its fun comic book-inspired look, a wealth of interesting side characters, and one very chaotic Superdog, is any indication of where the DCU could go, the future is bright.
