about
After a year-long protest by the farmers, India's central government repealed the laws that gave the farmers a glorious victory. This song is me celebrating their spirit, their victory while paying respects to 700 farmers who lost their lives while fighting for this cause.
Hamdard is an Urdu word that means 'somebody who shows sympathy/empathy towards others.' In this context, farmers are the hamdards who obtained victory with their non-violent, resilient efforts. Not only were they peaceful, but they had a substantial positive impact on the community in the areas where they were protesting. They could have chosen other ways to put their point forward, but instead, they showed sympathy to the government. They cared for the people who would be impacted. They chose the higher road.
