I wrote a fiction series with six characters. Each one drinks a different coffee.
I didn't plan it that way. But somewhere around the tenth story, I realized: what someone orders at the bar says more about them than anything they actually say.
Here's the lineup:
Lena โ Long Black โ
Espresso and water. No milk, no sugar. Clean, sharp, nothing to hide. The bartender stopped asking her order a few episodes in. She walks in, he just makes it.
Mark โ Pour-over ๐ซ
The slowest extraction method there is. You control the water temperature, the flow rate, every single step. That's Mark โ always three moves ahead, planting traps inside routine work.
Leo โ Flat White ๐ค
Looks simple. Demands the most craft. Easygoing on the surface, pure technical muscle underneath.
P โ Espresso ๐ฅ
Shortest. Strongest. Gone in one sip. Zero decoration. Just like P โ zero pronouns, zero inner monologue, zero small talk.
Alex โ Latte ๐ฅ
The most milk, the gentlest cup. He's the quietest of the six. Slowest to react emotionally. Fastest to pull up the data.
Derek โ Americano ๐ซ
Espresso diluted with water. Looks like a regular coffee, but the core is still espresso. Loud and casual on the outside. Wounded pride on the inside.
Today I had an Apple-C Americano with sparkling water,
from Luckin Coffee โ a chain in China that keeps inventing wild flavor combos ๐งช. Coconut foam lattes, cheese cream lattes, even a baijiu-infused one with Moutai. This one hit way too hard. For about ten minutes I was convinced I could talk to 30 AI agents at once โ I test an agent platform for a living โ then I looked at my screen and realized I'd been talking to the same one the whole time. ๐
That got me thinking: what does everyone here drink while they work?
So โ what's your drink? ๐
Doesn't have to be coffee. Tea, cola, energy drinks, plain water, whatever keeps you going.
Got any interesting local coffee combos where you live? And if you had to describe your work style as a drink, what would it be?

You guys should speak in English. I donโt know that much Chinese hahaha
Hahaha, let me sum it up and translate! This guy is single and balding, but his abilities have grown immensely, just like Saitama from One Punch Man๐คฃ
Then you should try Indian tea! People say itโs really good. Iโve actually never had tea myself, but I still tell people I have. Iโm vegan, so I donโt consume dairy products, and Indian tea is usually made with milk. But you should definitely try it! People say it brings a sense of peace and calm.
And Cat Night is serious about their career, so thatโs definitely a good thing!
Alright! Iโll check Taobao. Pretty much everything is available there ๐
๐๐
Haha You can make it at home too! Just boil milk, ginger, tea leaves, and sugar together, and then enjoy your tea. ๐คฃโ No need to waste money buying it outside! Money is important for everyone hahahaha
What? Ginger too ๐ซ Ginger is my worst enemy. Even just the smell makes me dizzy. Sometimes when cooking, if I accidentally bite into a slice of ginger, the feeling is absolutely terrible ๐
So u can try---
Black pepper / Cardamom
That combo is worth a try! I just searched Taobao and found lots of brands selling imported Indian milk tea. Iโm lazy, so Iโll just buy the ready-made product. Itโs tricky to get the ratios right if I make it myself, hahaha ๐
It looks very delicious, but this combination is so familiar, like the Assam milk tea I usually drink๐ถ
You are right! ๐
Water obviously
Sugarcane juice ๐น
and Indian Tea โ๐คฃ
I asked you to tell me what browser you're using and why and you are commenting on @xulingfeng 's post.

Because replying to your comment takes time, you know And it was my lunch time (breakfast + lunch ๐คฃ), so when Xulingfengโs post came out, I commented there and then went to eat. Your comment came around that time too!
Come on, have a little patience! I was going to reply anyway. I have to eat too, right? Haha! Iโll reply a little later. Iโm a working human, please understand! ๐คฃ

I ruined such a cute post and the whole thread.

Sugarcane juice gets my full praise!๐
I like also Mango juice.
Love mango! I also recommend mango pomelo sago.(ๆจๆ็้ฒ) ๐ฅญ
Okay ๐๐ป
Now I am waiting for @ndcodes
(Cooking king ๐)

I would love to try a coconut foam latte. I'm a 3 drink kind of gal at work. There's usually coffee from McDonald's and water to start the day. By lunch I'm just finishing up the coffee and add a sparkling water or Diet Dr. Pepper to the mix. So definitely 2 drinks at all times with a rotating third! ๐
Haha! I can try the coconut foam latte for you. It seems you can order all kinds of weird coffee combinations here. Your rotating three-drink routine sounds really interesting. Also, your picture made me laugh so hard ๐
I usually decide what drink Iโm going to have before starting work. I stick to that one drink together with plain warm water for the whole day. Itโs both consistent and not โ every day brings a new tasting experience.
Hats off to my sister who inspired the drink goblin idea!
@technogamerz summoned me, so here I am. ๐
Confession first, in a post about coffee: I don't drink it. Never really have. I suspect it's how I react to caffeine, though these days I won't touch decaf either, so it might just be the taste. Plain water and green tea do me fine.
The Nigerian answer is zobo. Dried hibiscus petals boiled with ginger, cloves, and pineapple skin, then left to steep for hours and chilled. Deep red, properly tart, and it takes long enough to make that you have to want it genuinely. Nothing else I drink tastes anything like it.
One translation note for this thread, since tea keeps coming up. Ask for tea in a Nigerian house, and there's a fair chance you'll be handed Milo. Tea at home means any hot drink in a mug, and chocolate malt is the house favourite. I was well into my twenties before I understood why that confused people elsewhere.
And work style as a drink: a mug of green tea I make, forget about, reheat, forget about again, and eventually drink cold while reading documentation. Which, now that I write it down, explains a great deal about my posting schedule. ๐
Yep! Speaking of tea, I feel proud. Tea culture started in China with tons of varieties like West Lake Longjing, Tieguanyin and Pu'er and more more more.๐
I highly recommend aged ripe Pu'er. Mine has fermented for almost 20 years! It boosts energy, calms you down and helps with skin maintenance, great for anyone๐คญ
I really appreciate this Nigerian drink trivia. Only locals know these little details!๐
ๅธ็ถ, twenty years. That's older than some of the infrastructure I've been asked to support, and it's clearly been looked after a great deal better. ๐
What you've recommended is the exact opposite of what I drink, from the same plant. Green tea gets heated early precisely to stop it changing, ๆ้, kill the green. Ripe Pu'er, from my little research, has to be fermented for decades. That's fascinating!
I'd never thought about it that way.
If I ever make it to China, I'm finding the Pu'er. ๅๆไบ. ๐
Ahh please donโt call me "ๅธ็ถ"! ๐คฃWeโre all friends here ๐ Donโt use that title next time, I really donโt deserve it.
Youโre right though. They come from the same tea plant, yet different processing methods create totally different results. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, fermented tea like Puโer is healthier than green tea. Puโer nourishes your body and energy. Green tea gives you a mental boost, but it consumes your bodyโs stored energy to achieve that effect. It works much like coffee: it perks you up, but there is a cost to it.
This is the thing I like most about you, and you're not going to enjoy hearing it. ๐คฃ The humility is real. I respect you for that.
But alright, friends, it is. ๆๅ.
I'll try to drop the title. I won't promise there'll be no slips, because every time you explain something like this, the urge comes straight back.
I've spent years avoiding coffee, running the same arrangement with green tea. Cold, reheated twice; sometimes I forget about the tea while reading documentation. ๐
So the Pu'er sounds more like a healthier option. ๐
Haha ๐ When I heard you keep reheating your tea, Iโd really recommend a thermos! ๐คฃWhen tea first meets hot water, it has the fullest aroma. After reheating two or three times, the fragrance fades away. No pressure though. You read documentation so carefully, which means you have amazing focus. In this era flooded with distracting information, thatโs really rare. Looking forward to the day you try Puโer.
Depends on the time of day:
Friday? Beer! ๐บ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Bitter drinks for the grind, haha! But Iโm not into bitter flavors myself โ I add plenty of sugar. I also occasionally grab beer late at night with grilled skewers ๐๐บ, absolute bliss!
With the amount of coffee I drink, if I added sugar to every cup, I'd get really fat ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
And that sounds great, I'm a big BBQ fan, so anything grilled (with a beer, of course) is awesome!
Just curious, is Apple-C Americano still coffee? ๐ ๐คฃ
Yep itโs still coffee! Espresso is the foundation, apple soda just adds fruity fizz ๐
Totally agree, grilled food with beer hits different.
I avoid the scale these days ๐คฃ Even if I look slim, Iโm nervous about the reading.
Daily intake
Weekly intake
Used to take coffee, but not any more. Coffee makes me too much dehydrated.
Thatโs such a healthy routine! Too much coffee isnโt great.
Over here, our classic health hack: steeping goji berries in a thermos ๐
Itโs the โadult developer survival drinkโ!
Thanks. ๐ฅฐ
Had unhealthy habits for a long time, not any more ๐คฃ
Iโm still trying to break my bad habit of eating grilled skewers late at night. But they just smell so good ๐คฃ
LOL. Yeah, why all the delicious food are unhealthy? ๐คฃ
Hahaha, thatโs the classic dilemma! You canโt have both the fish and the bearโs paw. My mind picks health, but my body craves delicious food. And my body wins, so I just listen to it ๐คฃ
Detox warm lemon water is actually really healthy! :D
While I'm working? Coffee (pleasure moment, 3 times per day), water (yeah, just hydration, lol) ... after work - a beer ("dinner augmentation") or a wine (closing the day, feeling like a priest, lol) !
All coffee and alcohol through the whole day! Come on, let me recommend Chinaโs office wellness combo: thermos with goji berries, haha ๐
๐๏ธ๐คโ ๏ธ๐ฅ๐
Compared to other community veterans, my badge collection is pretty small ๐
Lol yeah gotta make it sufferable, so I don't really have a choice!
P.S. no wait, I mentioned water as well, you ignored that! (but only a little bit, if I'm honest)
Oops, my bad! I zeroed in on coffee and wine ๐ Water is the unsung hero then. You can still add goji berries to it!๐
Haha it's okay, I mentioned the water mainly as an excuse for the rest ;-) and I'll keep the berries in mind!
Haha, donโt forget the thermos, this magic tool! But Iโm curious โ do most of you prefer ice water? From American TV shows, I rarely see people drinking hot boiled water ๐
Just cold/cool water (from our hot/cold water machine), not ice :-)
Got it! Cool water is refreshing enough ๐ Our thermos goji berry drink is warm, totally different vibe.
Coffe without sugar + milk || water.
Solid simple combo! Creamy coffee and plain water, really balanced ๐
A MacBook Pro plus a drink, what a fantastic pairing!๐
it gone viral
86 comments, 39 reaction lol.
I know you will beat me.
Haha this thread totally blew up! All thanks to everyone joining this fun chat ๐
We just keep drifting into interesting topics.
yeah fun chat... hope that fun chat occurred in my post's chats too so that it shows up in active discussions...
I can give you a hint! Compare your first viral post with this one, and youโll find the answer๐
hmm, let me see.
only this is different I can see. from my other posts.
I can only give you a subtle hint. The key lies in the postโs theme, youโll need to figure it out yourself๐
bro just 1 more day after that 12 october, Mustafa ERBAY will try to break ATLOCK v5....
I'm pretty confident he can't break it but still his bio roars.
system architect with 20+ year experience... a person operating own servers.
but what do you think he can break or not just a guess.
Iโm guessing he will manage to break it. ๐คญ
What if he failed?
Thereโs also a chance he might forget the whole thing ๐คฃ
we both launched our 2 posts.
let's see which post will be more viral lol.
I know it's yours just kidding no challenge.
hands off to you ๐๏ธ๐ค
by the way I drink lemonade sometimes and plain water mostly.
Lol, fun friendly race! ๐คฃ Water & lemonade are solid picks. Iโm stuck with coffee for those long testing marathons.
I'm not adult so my mom doesn't allow me to drink coffee, I drink chai(you know this?) only when I am sick.
other wise main drink is water and lemonade
I am allergic to chai :( So coffee only. But I like coffee more, so it's a good thing ;)
It would be even better if there were some pictures. After all, Iโve never seen real chai in person.๐
