Automated testing with automatic rollback verification is a game-changer for AI coding tools. Awesome launch, congrats! 🎉

The idea of agents proving their own work is interesting. I especially like the combination of repository-wide changes, testing, and the ability to undo changes. I’d be curious to see how this feels compared with a typical AI coding workflow in practice.

AI coding is easy to generate—but how do you know the code actually works? 🤖AstraCode tackles that gap by making its agents prove their own work, not just produce code. **Would built-in proof make you more confident shipping AI-generated code?**

tried astracode for the first time last week and it was way easier to get into than i expected. i described what i wanted in plain words, it planned the change across a few files, ran the tests, and everything actually worked on the first pass. i'm usually the type to review every line an ai writes, but here i didn't feel like i had to babysit it. that surprised me.

using astracode for more than 2 weeks now and it’s been a really good experience so far

Just tried AstraCode for the first time and it was easier to get started than I expected. I described what I wanted in simple words and it handled the rest instead of having me to review every single part.

Hi Dev Hunt, I build AstraCode. The thing that kept going wrong with coding agents: they say "done" when the change does not work, or when the tests they wrote would pass whether or not the change was there. So our agent runs your tests, then undoes its own change underneath them and checks they fail. A test that still passes proves nothing and sends the run back. Since we were last here: the same agent now runs as a CLI, in your terminal, in CI with a JSON result, as a branch reviewer, and inside JetBrains and Zed. AstraOne picks the model and brings in a stronger one when a check fails, so there is no model list to manage. The quickest test: give it a change across three or four files in a repo you know, break a line it wrote, and ask it to continue. Free to start, no card. Tell me where it fails for you; I will be here all day. CLI in one line: curl -fsSL https://astracode.io/install | sh

AstraCode is an AI-native coding environment built around powerful coding agents. Describe what you want and the agent plans the change across your repository, implements it, runs your tests, and proves them by undoing its change and confirming they fail without it. AstraOne chooses the model and brings in a stronger one when a check fails. The same agent runs in your terminal, CI and pull requests, and inside JetBrains IDEs and Zed. Free to start, no card.
  • Works with your existing extensions, keybindings and settings
  • Runs locally on your machine, no server dependency
  • Agents edit across the whole repository and run your test suite
  • AstraOne automatically selects and escalates the model
  • Checkpoint before every turn, allowing full undo of changes

Key features

8 features of AstraCode
  • Repository-wide edits — Agents locate files, plan changes and apply them across the whole repo, not just the open tab.
  • Automated testing & proof — Each change runs your test suite and is undone to prove the test would fail without it.
  • Model selection automation — AstraOne picks the model and escalates to a stronger one if tests fail.
  • Checkpoint & undo — A checkpoint before every turn lets you accept, reject or fully revert any edit.
  • Local privacy — All code runs on your machine; no repository is copied to external servers and no training on your code.
  • Tool integration — Connects to existing Model Context Protocol servers, issue trackers, databases and internal services.
  • IDE & CLI support — Same agent works in JetBrains IDEs, Zed, terminal, CI and pull requests.
  • Custom model keys — Bring your own API key to use any model; the key is used once and never stored.

Use cases

  • Rename a variable across many files with type-checking and test verification.
  • Add a new API endpoint, generate code, run integration tests and confirm no regressions.
  • Refactor a large codebase by splitting work among parallel sub-agents.
  • Automate CI/CD steps by invoking the agent from scripts or pull-request checks.

  • AstraCode vs Cursor: Cursor provides AI assistance but lacks automated testing, checkpoint undo, and model escalation.
  • AstraCode vs Claude Code: Claude Code is a terminal/IDE agent focused on single-step suggestions, not repository-wide planning and proof.
  • AstraCode vs Windsurf: Windsurf offers an AI-native editor but does not include AstraOne’s automatic model selection and rollback checkpoints.
  • AstraCode vs Cline: Cline is open-source and runs agents in the IDE, but lacks built-in test execution and privacy guarantees of local-only processing.

AstraCode FAQ

Will my extensions and settings work?+

Yes, AstraCode imports your existing extensions, keybindings and settings on first launch and keeps them updated.

How does AstraCode differ from Cursor and GitHub Copilot?+

AstraCode’s agents plan, implement, test and prove changes, run your tests, and provide a diff, while AstraOne auto-selects models and escalates on failures.

Can I use my own API key?+

Yes, you can provide your own provider key; it is used for requests and never stored.

Does my code get uploaded anywhere?+

No, the agent runs locally on your checkout; only the minimal snippet needed for a request is sent, and nothing is stored for training.

What happens when I run out of the monthly allowance?+

Requests stop; you are not charged unless you enable overage and add a payment method.

Can I cancel anytime?+

Yes, you can cancel with one click; you keep the paid period and revert to the free tier afterward.
