The present study depicts synthetically the results of two studies on mental representations of children aged 5–6 years on the wider field of electricity; that is children’s ideas about the construction of an electric circuit, the main components of the circuit and their role, as well as the electrical appliances and their function. The data are illuminated in a new perspective of detecting the ability of children to construct a precursor model for elementary electricity. From the analysis of children’s thinking it seems that this is plausible and thus the main axes of such a precursor model are presented.
