    Como parte de las actividades que realiza una universidad está el formar profesionistas en su área de especialización; no obstante, y en apego al concepto de “Responsabilidad Social Universitaria”, estas actividades además deben de contribuir en la formación de profesionistas con una conciencia ambiental, interesados en las problemáticas sociales y en formar parte de proyectos relacionados con el desarrollo. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue realizar un estudio diagnóstico de educación ambiental en estudiantes de la Universidad de Sonora y la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, a fin de identificar cuáles son las tendencias de las actitudes de los alumnos en materia del cuidado del ambiente. Como parte de la metodología se aplicó una encuesta a una muestra a estudiantes de la Universidad de Sonora y de la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas. Como resultados se observa el interés de los alumnos por temas relacionados al cuidado del ambiente, sin embargo, aún existe desconocimiento del tema. Como conclusiones se tiene que, si bien, la educación ambiental contribuye al cuidado del ambiente, se puede apreciar como un área de oportunidad la necesidad de involucrar más a los estudiantes en temas relacionados con su cuidado.

    As part of the activities carried out by a university is training professionals in their area of ​​specialization, however, considering university social responsibility, these must also contribute to the training of professionals with environmental awareness, interested in social problems and in take part in projects related to development. The objective of the present work was to carry out a diagnostic study of environmental education in students of the University of Sonora and the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas, in order to identify the trends of the attitudes of the students in the matter of care of the environment. As part of the methodology, a survey was applied to a sample of students from the University of Sonora and from the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas. As results, the interest of the students for issues related to the care of the environment is observed, but there is still unawareness of the subject. As conclusions, it is found that although environmental education contributes to caring for the environment, it can be seen as an area of ​​opportunity to involve students more in issues of caring for the environment.
